A motorcade escorting Vice President Mike Pence to a series events near Pittsburgh was involved in two accidents on Thursday, according to reporters in the press pool.Reporters for NBC News and Newsmax say that after Pence arrived at a Western Pennsylvania airport, a Trump campaign bus was involved in a "minor accident" with a dump truck. Though the Vice President was aboard the bus at the time of the accident, he was unhurt. Pence immediately left the bus and moved to a limo.Later, the outlets report that two motorcycles in the motorcade were involved in an accident. A Pinckney, Mich. woman is recovering after she was bitten by a rattlesnake while walking in her yard.Laura Bowen says she was cleaning out her garage, carrying some rakes down a walkway between her home and garage. That's when she says she didn't see the rattlesnake on the ground in front of a garage door, but almost immediately felt a burning pain in her leg when it bit her."It was like a bee sting times 10," Bowen said of the bite. "It was instant fry." Bowen is slowly recovering from the incident, which happened noon on Aug. 20."Just kept telling myself don’t over react because it’s just probably a garden snake or something," she said. "I took a couple shutter steps and looked back and it was a huge snake."The bite happened so fast, and the excruciating pain was almost instant."It was like acid, burn, pain," Bowen said.She says she took a picture of the snake after the bite. Emergency responders immediately recognized it as an Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake."That was the best thing that I did was to take that photo so they could identify it and know what they were treating," she said.Bowen spent four days in the hospital and received 10 vials of anti-venom. She still plays that day in her head over and over again, and is thankful everything is going to be ok."I think I’m going to buy some garden boots, the rubber ones that are clunky," Bowen said. "Definitely re-thinking my garden attire."She's currently using a cane to help her get around, and should be able to walk on her own again within a week.Bowen has two more doctors appointments just to make sure everything is healing well. 1700

A significant drop in the number of plastic bags littering Britain's seabeds suggests that a charge on plastic bags and other efforts to tackle marine litter are working, according to a new report.The study, published in the journal Science of the Total Environment, was carried out by scientists at the UK government's Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), who analyzed data complied between 1992 and 2017 to reveal a drop of nearly 30% in plastic bags on Britain's seabeds.The report inspected 2,461 trawls off the UK's coasts and found that over the 25-year period, 63% of trawls contained at least one plastic litter item. 663

A prayer rally was held over the weekend for a 33-year-old man who died after being arrested by sheriff’s deputies in a Southern California grocery store.The man, Ernie Serrano, was at the store last Tuesday night in line to pay for his items. Sheriff’s deputies say when they arrived at the store, they saw Serrano tussling with a security guard and attempting to take the guard’s gun, according to a department press release.“While detaining Serrano, he continued fighting with the deputies and did not comply with their commands. At that time, a use of force occurred,” Sgt. Lionel Murphy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department states in the release.Serrano was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies say Serrano then stopped breathing. "Medical personnel on scene rendered aid and was able to obtain a pulse. Serrano was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. While at the hospital, Serrano’s condition deteriorated, and he was later pronounced deceased," the department states.
