SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Father Joe's Villages and Connections Housing Downtown will accommodate nearly 300 additional homeless residents on Christmas Eve due to forecasted overnight rain, the San Diego Housing Commission announced Monday. The commission activates the Inclement Weather Shelter Program when temperatures drop below 50 degrees, the chance of rain is higher than 40 percent or in the case of sustained high winds. The program is a partnership between the commission, the city of San Diego, Father Joe's and Connections Housing. The commission also funds the program. Father Joe's can shelter an additional 250 residents throughout the night while Connections Housing can add up to 30 residents. Check-in at Father Joe's begins at 4 p.m. and residents are expected to check out by 5 a.m. the next morning. Check-in at Connections Housing runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and residents are expected to check out by 7 a.m. the next morning. Those at both shelters will have meals provided to them. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A United Airlines flight scheduled to take off from San Diego International Airport was diverted from the runway just before departure Friday due to an undisclosed mechanical issue with one of the plane's engines.Flight 478 was scheduled to take off for Denver shortly before noon, but was recalled while on the airport's taxiway. The plane was safely escorted back to the airport's terminal and the issue occurred at low speed, according to United.``The aircraft safely returned to the gate and customers deplaned normally,'' a United spokesperson said in a statement. ``We are making arrangements to get our customers to their final destination as soon as possible.''Roughly 120 passengers were aboard the flight. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Homicide detectives Friday were investigating the death of a man who was found unconscious in a Midway District parking lot.Dispatchers received a call around 10 p.m. Thursday from a person who reported finding the man in a parking lot in the 3700 block of Rosecrans Street, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said.Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and were directed to the 31-year-old victim, who had suffered trauma to his upper body, Brown said.The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m., the lieutenant said. His name was withheld pending family notification.Police announced Monday that Zarchari Mock, 29, was arrested in connection with the homicide. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A parolee accused of sexually assaulting an 88-year- old woman at a Hillcrest nursing home just days after being released from jail for an unrelated drug offense was charged Wednesday with rape, elder abuse and other felonies.Lusean Arline, 48, was arrested Monday in connection with the alleged Oct. 27 sex assault at the Balboa Nursing & Rehab Center. Deputy District Attorney Scott Pirrello alleged that Arline entered the nursing home around 3 a.m. and was found completely nude on top of the victim in her bed.
