When I looked back, the whole village had disappeared," said survivor Zhang Jin.The landslide consisted of about 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters of mud, and it was unstable and likely to trigger additional landslides, said Yin Yueping, a researcher with the Ministry of Land and Resources.At least 1,000 villagers living in the area have been evacuated.Torrential rains have been ravaging south China over the past two months. A once-in-three-century rainstorm was seen in Lingyun County of Guizhou's neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from Sunday to Tuesday, and residents have to go outdoors by boat."It will take more than 10 days for the flood to wane because of the geological structure here," said Zhou Lixin, secretary of Lingyun's Luolou Town Committee of the Communist Party of China.Heavy rainstorms also hit east China's Shandong Province and northwest China's Qinghai Province. GUANGZHOU, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Five fishermen are missing after their fishing boat collided with an unknown vessel that then fled off the coast of south China's Guangdong Province early on Wednesday, local authorities said.The wooden fishing boat sank after colliding with the unknown vessel along the coast of Lufeng City in the early morning. Seven fishermen aboard the boat fell into the water, and two were subsequently saved by rescuers, the Lufeng Municipal Emergency Affairs Office said in a statement.The unknown vessel fled the scene following the collision, it said.Local maritime authorities are searching the area for both the five missing people and the runaway vessel, it added.

URUMQI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 380 Chinese nationals had returned home aboard Chinese chartered flights as of Tuesday night from southern Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left some 170 people dead.The Chinese government has sent four chartered planes to bring home nationals including business people and students in Kyrgyzstan. Three chartered planes dispatched on Monday and Tuesday have returned and the fourth one left at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for Osh of Kyrgyzstan to fly home more Chinese nationals.More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan. The provincial meteorological bureau forecast heavy storms to hit Hubei from June 7 to 8 and might trigger flooding in its southern mountainous areas.By June 3, floods have killed 125 people and left 34 people missing all over China, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said.More than 23.09 million people and 1.55 million hectares of crops were affected. Direct economic losses amounted to 16.9 billion yuan (2.47 billion U.S. dollars), it said.
