MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee’s top cop has been demoted. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales is now Captain Morales. The Fire and Police Commission could have taken a number of actions against Morales as they voted on his discipline Thursday night including firing him. Instead, they chose a demotion.“The chief, effective immediately, is demoted to the rank of captain,” said Steve DeVougas, chair of the Fire and Police Commission.Morales listened in virtually as every member voted for his demotion. He never made a comment. However, some of the commissioners weighed in.“I feel you have personally not worked with us as the oversight board,” said Nelson Soler, a commissioner with the Fire and Police Commission.Over a month ago, the FPC issued 11 directives to Morales in order for him to keep his job. They included things like increased transparency around investigations and reviewing the policy on using teargas and pepper spray against demonstrators following recent incidents in Milwaukee.Several other directives are meant to create more communication between Morales and the civilian panel. Morales will be required to attend all FPC meetings and allow commissioners to visit his office at their discretion. The FPC also demands police respond to all of its open records requests.“His conduct is unbecoming filled with ethical lapses and flawed decision. Making it inconsistent with some charged with leading the Milwaukee Police Department,” said Ray Robakowski, a commissioner with the Fire and Police Commission.The last few days exposed a deep rift between Morales and FPC Chair Steven DeVougas. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett described it as a feud. But the issues clearly went deeper than a disagreement between the two as every member of the commission agreed Morales needed to go.Assistant Chief Michael Brunson is now Acting Chief Brunson effective immediately. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) — Police have arrested two suspects in the death of a teenager found in a National City alley in November.National City Police said Friday that 18-year-old Jonathan Cardona Martinez, of San Diego, and 18-year-old Alan Monroy, of Chula Vista, were arrested for the murder of 17-year-old Ivan Rojas on Nov. 27.Rojas was found just before 1:30 a.m. in the west alley of 1900 C Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived and performed life-saving measures, but Rojas died at the scene.Both Martinez and Monroy have been arraigned on first-degree murder charges and are being held on million bail.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call National City Police at 619-336-4460. 751

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee police are looking for the suspects involved in a “large fight” at a Wendy’s restaurant on the city’s north side.It happened on Monday around 6:15 p.m. at the restaurant.Floyd Taylor captured the fight on his cell phone -- as it escalated during the dinner rush.Taylor says he entered the Wendy’s and started ordering food. He says he saw an employee and manager arguing behind the counter and the tension started to escalate.Taylor says the manager left the store to call for help – and that’s when the punches started flying. Right now, there is no word if anyone was injured.Milwaukee Police are still investigating the incident.  673

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Six Metro Nashville police officers have been commended for their heroic response early Christmas morning when an RV exploded. The officers responded to the call of gunfire and upon hearing an RV play a recorded message saying the vehicle contained a bomb, took several measures to evacuate as many people as possible from Second Avenue.City leaders applauded the officers for their swift action, putting the lives of others ahead of their own. "They immediately began knocking on doors, not knowing when the bomb would go off," Chief John Drake said at a press conference Saturday night. "They didn't think of themselves...they thought of the citizens of Nashville. Officer Luellen arrived at the scene first. He said after five minutes, they heard a timer counting down from the RV. Officers noticed the shades were down on the vehicle but did not notice a tag. He said he didn't immediately notice the RV, but thought it may have been someone visiting town for Christmas. The officers contacted six to seven apartments and asked residents to evacuate.After some time, music began to play from the RV. Once the song finished, the announcement of a bomb continued. Officer Luellen said once the announcement resumed, he saw a man walking a dog. The man was notified of the warning and shortly after the RV exploded. Luellen said he was knocked over and the man was in shock.The second officer who responded to the scene was Brenna Hosey. She said when she heard the announcement coming from the RV she was confused. "Is this really what we're hearing right now," Hosey recalled thinking. She then began clearing apartments on Second Avenue floor-by-floor. They began these evacuation efforts as the RV announced there would be 14 minutes until detonation. Officer James Wells suffered hearing loss from the blast. Wells said once he heard Luellen call over the radio for an immediate response, he knew by the tone of his voice it was serious. Officer Topping said as she was getting to the area of Second Avenue and Commerce Street she began to hear the message playing from the RV. "That's a sound I'll never forget," she said. Sgt.
