VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Between the hustle and bustle of serving hungry customers at Commune in Virginia Beach, you'll find small pops of beauty.That beauty took a new form on Friday when Dan Pew walked through the doors.He was visiting from Ohio with his fiance and said he wanted to spread love and positivity during his time in the Resort City.A few days before vacation, he was scrolling through the social media platform Tik Tok when he came across posts about the Venmo Challenge.It encourages people to give back to their community."You ask your social media followers - [it can be] your friends, your family, or businesses or anybody and you say 'hey if you want to donate through Venmo Challenge tag 'the awesome human being' or 'for the food service worker' and then you donate and then you surprise a food service worker with a tip," Pew said.Pew was inspired by the videos of people surprising waiters and waitresses, so he took the plea to his followers on social media.In a message he said, "We're going to Virginia Beach for vacation this week and we want to surprise a food service worker with a huge tip."After putting the challenge out there, the internet got to work. Pew racked up hundreds of dollars in his Venmo account in just a few days.Then on Friday, after being helped by Aubrey Seykerbuyk at Commune, Pew pulled out 0.Seykerbuyk recalled the moment that made her jaw drop to the ground, "He had like a wad of cash and started counting it out in front of me and I honestly didn't know like what was happening. I didn't know if it was like a social experiment to see if I would take it or not."It was no experiment. The young waitress was nearly brought to tears.She said the act of kindness couldn't have come at a better time. "My vision has been clouded by so much negativity just by everything going on recently and that little glimmer of kindness that I received yesterday was just enough to remind me that there is still good people, there are still good people in this world and we need more of them."Even better, the other servers got a piece of the pie.Chelsey Miller is the front house manager at Commune who was working when the surprise took place."We all tip share so it kinda went to all of us and they didn't even realize that was going to be the case either so it was really awesome," she said. Seven of the nine justices — five conservatives and two liberals — backed a robust reading of the Constitution's 10th Amendment and a limit on the federal government's power to force the states go along with Washington's wishes.The federal anti-gambling law is unconstitutional because "it unequivocally dictates what a state legislature may and may not do," Justice Samuel Alito wrote in his majority opinion. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Detectives called off a suspect search in Vista after it was discovered that a juvenile accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday afternoon. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called to the 100 block of Paseo Marguerita in Vista around 3:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a male juvenile with a gunshot wound. While responding, deputies received information about possible suspects. Authorities found the juvenile near a small pond with a gunshot wound to the leg. Meanwhile, a neighboring school was given an order to lock down. After an extensive search for the suspects, deputies broke down a perimeter set up around the area. The boy was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. After investigating, detectives learned that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and "appeared to be accidental." The department said it's no longer looking for any suspects. 907

VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside man who allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk while fleeing from another crash was charged Friday with murder, among other charges.Wesley Stuart, 27, was also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, and faces 15 years to life in state prison if convicted of all charges stemming from the Tuesday night death of 65-year-old Tran Thanhminh of Oceanside.Police said the initial crash was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue.RELATED: 65-year-old man killed, driver arrested in Oceanside hit-and-runInvestigators believe Stuart was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and was speeding eastbound on Mission, ran a red light and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound on Douglas, Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis said.After the crash, the Chevy driver backed up and headed east on Mission, where he struck Thanhminh in a crosswalk, dragging him about 150 feet down the street, the sergeant said.Thanhminh, who died at the scene, was with his wife at the time, though she was not struck, authorities said.The couple had just closed their restaurant for the day and were walking home when he was hit, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, which stated that his wife had already crossed the street when she heard the crash, but did not see her husband when she turned to look into the street.Stuart allegedly continued on Mission before getting out of the pickup at Rancho Del Oro and fleeing on foot with a passenger, Davis said.Officers searched the area with the help of a police helicopter and apprehended the two outside Stuart's home, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said.Stuart was arrested.
