Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker revised his financial disclosure forms five times after being appointed to the top Justice Department role earlier this month, according to the forms, which were released Tuesday.Revisions to disclosure filings are not uncommon, but the release of Whitaker's forms comes amid pressure from government watchdog groups who raised concerns in recent days about why their requests for the documents had gone unfulfilled.The forms show that in the months before then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions hired him as chief of staff in 2017, Whitaker was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary from a conservative oversight group he founded in 2014.Financial records show that The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, or FACT, received nearly all of its funding from a group called DonorsTrust, whose contributors are mostly anonymous but are known to include major Republican donor Charles Koch.Whitaker was paid a total of 4,000 over 2016 and most of 2017, according to his first disclosure form.CNN has previously reported that Whitaker made a total of 7,000 while working for FACT from 2014 to 2016. Now, schools are weighing in, too.Fueled by the rise in school shootings in the last decade, hundreds of high schools and middle schools have hired armed police officers, also known as school resource officers, to patrol campuses.But just as civil rights groups like Black Lives Matter are calling for a change in policing, the Gwinnett Parent Coalition to Dismantle the School to Prison Pipeline (GwinnettSToPP) is calling for a change in school security."We've been at this for quite some time. We've done a lot of things along the way to mitigate the effects of police in schools," said Marlyn Tillman, the co-founder of GwinnettSToPP.Since it was established 10 years ago, the group has aimed to remove police officers from school campuses. Tillman says that when police are on campus, what used to result in a trip to the principal's office now means a "trip in handcuffs.""Most of them have two guns, a taser and a baton. They definitely all have one (gun) and then they are allowed to carry their own personal firearm," Tillman said. "That image is not the image that garners safety. That is an image of violence."Denver Public Schools (DPS) recently joined several other large school districts across the country in removing school resource officers from campuses — but the change isn't immediate. DPS currently plans to eliminate school resource officers by the end of the 2020-2021 school year."There are other ways to think about safety, and this is the time to do that," said Denver school board member Jennifer Bacon.Bacon believes there is a way to keep schools safe without projecting the image of violence that comes with an armed officer."There are things we will always have to call police officers for," Bacon said. "We cannot handle guns. We cannot handle controlled substances. But having them present suggests that a kid is 'that close' to doing a crime."Fresno High School student Richard Romero believes students will feel safer without officers patrolling on campus, but he doesn't think they should be eliminated. He feels a single resource officer could handle duties for multiple schools."Some altercations don't always need police. They just need relations to be restored," Romero said.DPS and other school districts hope that without resource officers on campus, educators can take a restorative justice approach to discipline — focusing on education and child development instead of punishment."A restorative process is an opportunity for them to learn from it. (KGTV) - San Diego Gas and Electric shut off power in parts of East County Sunday due to very strong winds and low humidity associated with the Red Flag Warning fire conditions.The utility company said it called customers in Descanso, Beckman Springs, Pine Valley and surrounding areas over the weekend to warn them about the possibility of outages.On Sunday night at 11:30, SDG&E shut off the power to about 1,000 customers as wind gusts reached up to 69 miles per hour.Once SDG&E turns off power for safety reasons, it is not able to turn the power back on until it determines conditions are safe, the company said.RELATED: 10News Pinpoint Weather ForecastThe power may remain out until the Red Flag Warning expires, which is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m., SDG&E said.Four of SDG&E’s nine community resource centers were due to open Monday morning to support residents without power. (KGTV) — Sheriff's deputies are investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle near an East County school.Students walking to and from Joan McQueen Middle School Wednesday said they saw a vehicle slow down next to them as they were heading to school. This was near Victoria Drive and Sneath Way, according to the Alpine Union School District. The students became concerned and reported the incident, according to San Diego Sheriff's investigators.The driver or passenger didn't talk to or touch the students. The school district added that there were two instances in which the reported vehicle slowed near students as they walked.The school district sent a message out to parents saying, "we have asked all campuses to be vigilant about safety. I hope you will partner with us in our efforts to keep our children safe by appropriately talking about this incident at home and discussing how to practice proactive safety skills." 950
