The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared nearly 2,000 points higher, a day after the worst day for American markets since the 1987 Black Monday crash.Friday started off with a bang in the foreign markets. Shares were up about 5% in Paris and London but fell 6.1% in Japan early Friday morning. Then the Dow continued to climb throughout Friday after the Dow lost nearly 10% of its value on Thursday. The Dow lost nearly 2,400 points on Thursday. Despite Friday's gains, the Dow has still seen a drop in value in the last month. The Dow has lost 22% of its value since last month's record high.Wild swings continued in some markets as governments stepped up precautions against the spread of the new coronavirus and considered ways to cushion the blow to their economies. India's Sensex gained 4% after plunging 10% when it opened. More central banks, including those of China, Sweden and Norway, intervened to flood credit markets with liquidity, a day after similar interventions from the U.S. Federal Reserve and European Central Bank. 1048

The keyboard has replaced the pen these days, and it is truly just as mighty. The owners of DJ’s Bar and Grill on the bypass in Winchester, Kentucky, can attest to that. “It’s alarming to think that this is the caliber of the general public, or the intelligence level we’re dealing with day to day,” said Danielle Ratliff. Three Decembers ago, a post appeared on Facebook about a restaurant refusing to serve ten of the 35 meals it had prepared for a group of veterans. The 25 who were there, wanted to serve the extra meals to homeless vets. The restaurant, which also goes by the name DJ’s, apparently refused. Since it’s an anniversary month for that post, it was re-shared and from coast to coast people got wind of it. Many, however, decided to not read all of it. They missed the fact that the post was from 2016. Missed the fact that it was directed at DJ’s of Pueblo, Colorado. “Armed” with that lack of knowledge, they decided to come after Gary Rison’s establishment in Clark County.“Even this morning, I responded to more negativity,” Rison said. He referred to an old restaurateur adage about how one negative review can reach 100 people, but one nice review might reach only five people. This had the same kind of impact. Comments to DJ’s (the one in Winchester, not Pueblo) Facebook page came from as far away Arkansas, and Nebraska. People there claiming DJ’s actions on that night to be “shameful,” and “disgraceful.” Rison and his daughter have responded to most of the comments, and many people deleted their negative posts once they had, you know, the facts. This story could’ve been as juicy as the steaks at DJ’s (Winchester, not Pueblo), if it had been even remotely accurate. 1709

The massive storm system that killed several people from Texas to Mississippi is now barreling east, threatening to spawn tornadoes and other catastrophic weather from New England to the Gulf Coast.About 90 million people are under the gun for destructive weather Sunday, CNN meteorologist Haley Brink said. While Sunday's storms might not be as severe as the ones that battered the South on Saturday, they will hit far more people in heavily populated cities."New York, Washington DC and Atlanta all within the zone," CNN Meteorologist Derek Van Dam said.At least one tornado was reported Sunday morning in southeast Alabama, near Troy and Goshen, the National Weather Service's Birmingham office said."Heavy rainfall may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. Take cover now," the NWS office said."Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."Not just tornadoesBut tornadoes aren't the only possible cause of destruction Sunday."Damaging winds and some hail are also associated with these storms pushing through the Southeast this morning," Brink said. The threat of severe weather will likely increase throughout the day, the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center said."Some storms may also produce large hail or torrential downpours resulting in localized flash flooding," the weather service tweeted. At least 3 children killed in this storm systemThe storm system's first two victims were two children in east Texas. The children, ages 3 and 8, were killed when a tree fell on a car. They were in the back seat with their parents in the front, Angelina County Sheriff's Department Capt. Alton Lenderman said.A preliminary damage survey showed an EF-3 tornado, with winds up to 140 mph, touched down in Robertson County, the 1907
