Ultimate Fighting Championship star Conor McGregor was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief after an alleged bus attack, the New York Police Department said Friday.Bail for the fighter was set at ,000.Police arrested McGregor following the incident Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.McGregor allegedly threw something through the window of a minibus, injuring a passenger, according to an NYPD source with knowledge of the event.CNN could not reach McGregor's team for comment.UFC president Dana White told the website MMAjunkie that a member of a credentialed website let McGregor and his entourage of about 20 people into the arena through a door during a media day event. The group went down to the loading dock where some fighters who were to participate in UFC 223 on Saturday were getting on buses.McGregor's group attacked a bus using trash cans, metal barricades and a two-wheeled dolly, White said."This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company," White told MMAjunkie."This was a real bad career move for him," White said.White said McGregor had "some sort of beef" with lightweight fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was on the bus.Another fighter on the bus, Michael Chiesa, suffered head and facial cuts from broken glass, White told the website. Chiesa later said on Twitter that the New York State Athletic Commission determined he would not be allowed to fight on Saturday."The organization deems today's disruption completely unacceptable and is currently working on the consequences that will follow," UFC said in a statement.Flyweight Ray Borg, who was scheduled to face Brandon Moreno, is also unfit to fight due to multiple corneal abrasions, according to the UFC."Also removed from the card was the featherweight bout between Artem Lobov and Alex Caceres due to Lobov's involvement in the incident," the UFC said. It did not provide details on Lobov's role in the incident."UFC 223 will proceed as scheduled with 10 bouts," the UFC said. "Moving to the Pay-Per-View main card is the featherweight bout between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Kyle Bochniak."According to Bleacher Report, McGregor (21-3) last fought for UFC in November 2016, when he won the 155-pound championship.Nurmagomedov is fighting for the 155 title Saturday, after White said earlier this week McGregor would no longer be permanent champ, according to the Washington Post.McGregor last competed eight months ago, losing to undefeated Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match that reportedly paid Mayweather more than 0 million and McGregor at least million.  2647

US President Donald Trump and Mexico's top immigration officials painted sharply different pictures Tuesday of the large groups of Central American migrants at the border. On Twitter and during a live televised meeting in the Oval Office, Trump said migrants in the so-called caravan he'd been warning about for weeks were either returning to their home countries or staying in Mexico."A lot of the people that wanted to come into the country. And really they were going to come in no matter how they wanted to come in. They were going to come in, even a rough way. Many of these people are leaving now and going back to their countries. ... If you notice, it's getting a lot less crowded in Mexico," Trump said. "And a lot of them are going to stay in Mexico, and the Mexican government has been working with us very well. So we appreciate that. But they haven't been coming into our country. We can't let people come in that way. So that's pretty much it."But Mexican immigration authorities said Tuesday that many migrants were still waiting at the border for the chance to make their case for asylum in the United States -- and that more than 1,000 migrants from the caravan may have crossed into the United States already.According to data provided by the US Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection had apprehended 1,036 caravan migrants as of Monday. And more than 5,000 migrants were waiting to seek asylum in a queue at the San Ysidro port of entry. These are the latest details on migrants from the caravan, according to Mexican officials:? 2,500 are in a large temporary shelter run by Mexican immigration officials in Tijuana? 600 are in other shelters in Tijuana? 300 are in tents outside a shelter that officials recently closed due to health concerns? 1,100 "could have crossed into the United States"? 1,100 voluntarily agreed to return to Central America with assistance from the International Organization for Migration? About 70% are men? People ages 18-28 make up the largest groupThe new details on the migrants come just over a week into Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's presidency. Speculation has surged over how Lopez Obrador's administration will handle immigration and respond to pressure from the United States. On the campaign trail, he said he didn't believe Mexico should do "dirty work" for the United States. But as large groups of migrants moved through Mexico weeks before he took office, several reports suggested the incoming administration had reached a deal with the US government.Lopez Obrador's administration later denied that claim. Now administration officials say Mexico's new President will make an announcement on Friday regarding immigration policy.Speaking to reporters on Tuesday in the country's capital, the director of Mexico's National Migration Institute criticized Trump's characterization of the caravan."Migration should not be stigmatized. The one who championed denouncing the caravan and immigration as criminals was President Trump during the recent election campaign, just like he did for his presidential campaign, in which the bad guys were the Mexicans. So this is not the first time Trump creates these enormous campaigns with an impact that is literally global through President Trump's communication means," Tonatiuh Guillen Lopez said. "But that has nothing to do with the reality of the humanitarian crisis that is present. I think it is a mistake to confuse a humanitarian crisis and use that crisis for purposes that we saw in the last electoral campaign." 3679

UTAH COUNTY, Utah – Most days begin about the same for Jeff Smith. He makes sure to squeeze in time in the home gym and tries to eat healthy. Smith is really like most Americans, except he is completely blind.“It’s called retinitis pigmentosa,” Smith explained. It’s a hereditary disease that slowly stole his sight.“Usually, it starts out in the periphery and slowly works its way in until it’s like you’re looking through a tube,” he said.Smith has had to relearn just about everything in his life“You know, things like brushing your teeth, finding clothes to wear,” Smith said. “I probably don’t match very well here today.”Technology has become like a best friend.“I use technology from the moment I get up from probably the moment I go to sleep,” Smith said. This past election cycle, he tried something for the first time.“Anything new or different to a blind person is scary,” Smith said.He voted entirely on his mobile phone using an app called “Voatz”His country was among several in the country participating in the pilot program. The pilot program was for voters who are either disabled or overseas at the time of the election.“My county has historically been a bit of a mess when it came to elections,” said Utah County clerk Amelia Gardner Powers.Gardner Powers decided to try and clean things up.“We deliver your ballot to you on your phone, you mark your preferences on your phone and then you submit it back to us,” Gardner Powers said. “We actually print off your ballot using a ballot printer and run those through the scanner with all of our other ballots.”She says the response has been phenomenal, especially in a year like 2020“People’s access to the polls has been limited. Just think of all the things that have happened like hurricanes, flooding, wildfires,” Gardner Powers said. And of course, a global pandemic. Those in quarantine or afraid of exposure could vote at home.“Their voter registration went from single digits to high double digits,” said Jonathan Johnson.Johnson knows a thing or two about elections and technology. He ran for governor in the state of Utah and is now the CEO of Overstock.com. Johnson is urging community leaders to give the tech a try so more people can vote.“Once a vote is put into blockchain technology, it doesn’t change. It’s not just one database that can be hacked and changed, it’s put into a kind of distributed database so if one is changed, all the others are not,” Johnson explained.Think of it like multiple virtual safety deposit boxes holding your vote.“This is safe and secure,” Johnson said. “It’s more secure than just showing your license when you show up at a junior high school gymnasium.”For Smith, it means voting without any help.“Well, this is the United States of America,” Smith said. “Voting is a patriotic thing to me. It is a blessing to be able to participate in the political process.”Smith may have lost his sight, but when it now comes to voting? He has gained his independence. 2976

UPDATE -- A beloved community icon was returned overnight Monday after surveillance video caught a thief making off with the Rancho Bernardo treasure. It's still unclear who took the baker statue, but the figure was returned to a business next door overnight. The owners say they're happy and grateful the icon is back. View the original story below: SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you stop at Rancho Bernardo's Edelweiss Bakery, you will get tasty treats and a warm welcome, thanks to a 7-foot-tall statue known as "The Baker Man." Bakery owner Gerry Lawrie says has stood outside the front door for more than 20 years. Before that, it stood outside a previous location in Mira Mesa for several years. "He was particularly liked by the children. They like to run up and touch him, and take photos next to him," said Lawrie. The store mascot turned neighborhood icon vanished Tuesday night. In the surveillance video, a vehicle is seen pulling up just before 10:30 p.m. A man gets out and walks toward statue and pushes it to check the weight. He then walks back toward the truck, before turning around and eventually picking up the statue. Finally, he tosses it into the truck and drives off."Disappointed for sure," said Lawrie.Lawrie and his wife Lynn are both at a loss."Feels sad and empty because he was such a part of us. Customers are really upset," said Lynn Lawrie."The Baker Man" was first purchased at an antique warehouse in Corona. They believe it's fiberglass and weighed less than 100 pounds. The owners are making a direct appeal to the thief."He's a special friend and we would like him returned," he said. The couple filed a police report, but they're hoping the thief will simply put it back, no questions asked. The owners are also offering a unique reward for information leading to the return of the statue. They plan to donate a ,000 to Rady Children's Hospital. 1887

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has named 13 new cardinals, including Washington D.C. Archbishop Wilton Gregory, who would become the first Black U.S. prelate to earn the coveted red hat. In a surprise announcement from his studio window Sunday to the faithful below in St. Peter’s Square, Francis said the churchmen would be elevated to a cardinal’s rank in a ceremony on Nov. 28. Other new cardinals include an Italian who is the long-time papal preacher at the Vatican, and churchmen from Rwanda, the Philippines and Chile. The former director of the Rome Catholic charity, Caritas, the Rev. Enrico Feroci, also made the list. 638
