SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating Monday night's shoot out at the border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Christopher Barajas said he was pulling up to the line to head into the U.S, but turned back. "Everyone started screaming before I even get to the line," said Barajas. It happened around 7:30 p.m. when police and Customs and Border Protection officers say the driver of a white pick up truck refused to stop at a secondary inspection area. Instead, the twenty-three-year-old allegedly accelerated and tried to drive straight through the port into the United States before being blocked by a vehicle. Police say the driver started firing shots from inside his truck and then got out and continued shooting at officers. Seven C-B-P officers returned fire, hitting the man at least once. Officers and San Diego Fire Rescue crews performed life saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene."If they didn't find any individuals in there, smuggling, he was probably hiding something in there," said Barajas.White plastic garbage bags could be seen sitting on the truck's tailgate, but police haven't released any information about what, if anything, was found. Tuesday, only the Sentri and Ready lanes remained open on the northbound side. Traffic heading into Mexico was not affected. (KGTV) — A man was arrested after deputies say he fled the scene of a San Marcos crash and was stopped by passersby from leaving a second crash scene.San Diego Sheriff's deputies received a report of a beige Mercedes-Benz traveling at an unsafe speed on northbound Bennett Ave. before is ran off the road and collided with a concrete wall and then a residence at 600 Bennett Ave.The driver, a 26-year-old man, tried to flee the area, but was detained by passerbys until deputies arrived.While deputies were responding to that incident, SDSO says they received another call about a black, male suspect wearing camouflage clothing who had used a hatchet to smash the window of a vehicle at a Stater Brothers Grocery store at 1330 East Mission Rd. The man reportedly fled in a vehicle matching the description of the Mercedes-Benz and struck a gray Audi in the area of Knob Hill Rd., SDSO said. The driver of the Audi, a 61-year-old woman, was not injured. At the scene of the Bennett Ave. crash, paramedic treated the suspect at the scene and he was released. Based on evidence and interviews, deputies determined that the suspect was under the influence of prescription medication and heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision. The man was later arrested for driving under the influence, vandalism, and leaving the scene of an accident.SDSO's traffic division is investigating the crime. 1420

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. — Authorities are asking people to be on alert after a man in a white SUV attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl in San Tan Valley, Arizona on Wednesday. According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 4 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking with a friend near a park in the North Pecan Creek neighborhood when a man driving a white SUV pulled up next to them.The man reportedly told the girl that her brothers were in a serious accident and that she needed to go with him. The girl then asked the man what the "code word" was, but the man did not know and drove off."Kudos to the parents of this child for having a code word and talking about to their children about stranger danger," said Sheriff Mark Lamb. "We hope by putting this out, it will encourage parents to have that conversation and create a plan with their children, so they know what to do if they are in that situation."The SUV has been reportedly seen circling the park several times a day, according to children who live in the neighborhood. “This is generally what I consider a pretty safe area, I’ve never heard of anything bad,” said Patrick McDonald, who lives nearby.“This one time, it saved my daughters life,” said Brenda James, the girl’s mother.James talked to KNXV and the media so that other parents could learn about code words as she did.“We actually just came up that few months ago. So it was something really recent from a story that I read,” James said.The man is described as being possibly in his 40s with a short beard.
