SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Only two weeks after its shipment, Amazon's Kindle Fire has already shown the momentum to grab the second place in global tablet computer market, research firm IHS predicted on Friday.Amazon is expected to ship 3.9 million Kindle Fire tablets during the last three months of 2011, the first quarter the product goes on sale, according to preliminary projection from IHS.The number will give Amazon a 13.8-percent share of global tablet market in the fourth quarter, surpassing the 4.8 percent held by No. 3 player Samsung, and second only to Apple's commanding 65.6 percent market share."Nearly two years after Apple Inc. rolled out the iPad, a competitor has finally developed an alternative which looks like it might have enough of Apple's secret sauce to succeed," Rhoda Alexander, senior manager of tablet and monitor research for IHS, said in a statement."Initial market response strongly suggests that Amazon, with the Kindle Fire, has found the right combination of savvy pricing, astute marketing, accessible content and an appropriate business model, positioning the Kindle Fire to appeal to a brand-new set of media tablet buyers," she added.IHS analysts noted that with a price tag of 199 U.S. dollars, the Kindle Fire has set a new bar for pricing, bringing the tablet within reach of a larger portion of the buying public.IHS expects Kindle Fire's rapid ascent to help fuel the expansion of the entire tablet market, now predicting that 64.7 million tablets will be shipped in 2011, higher than its previous forecast of 60 million issued in August.The total tablet shipment number this year will represent a 273- percent growth from 17.4 million units in 2010, said IHS, which has also increased its longer-term projection of global tablet shipment in 2015 to 287.2 million units.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study finds that ginger may decrease the risk of colon cancer through diminishing the inflammation in the gut, according to media reports Thursday.Prior researches have found that chronicle inflammation in the gut is related to colon cancer, suggesting easing inflammation in intestines might reduce the risk of the cancer, said Suzanna M. Zick, lead author of the study published online in Cancer Prevention Research. Zick, also a naturopathic physician and research associate professor at University of Michigan Medical Center, and her colleagues, assigned 30 volunteers to take pills containing two grams of either placebo powder or ginger root extract, equivalent to about two tablespoons of ground-up raw ginger root.And they recorded the inflammations in the participants' intestines before and after the test period.The researchers found that participants taking ginger pills had 28 percent less inflammation in their intestines after the test. But no difference was found in those who took placebo.The findings are promising, but the researchers are not yet recommending people start taking more ginger at meal times. The study only involved 30 participants, so it is just a preliminary study. Zick said they hope to launch a larger study in the future, according to USA Today.

BEIJING, Oct.25 (Xinhua) -- The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), the country's top banking regulator, on Tuesday revealed detailed plans to encourage financial support for the country's small and micro-sized enterprises.In a supplementary notice issued to its previous support plan for financing small enterprises, the CBRC said banks should ensure that the growth of loans to small firms will not be slower than that of the average lending, and the growth should be higher than the level of the previous year.Also, commercial banks should give more support to enterprises that borrow less than 5 million yuan (787,401 U.S. dollars), and increase tolerance for non-performing loans to small and micro-sized firms, it said.The regulator has set detailed rules for the establishment of financial institutions serving small businesses, and encouraged banks to create financial instruments to support the development of small high-tech enterprises.The CBRC has also allowed banks to issue special financial bonds to boost financing for small businesses.By the end of August, outstanding loans to small and micro-sized enterprises stood at 14.6 trillion yuan, accounting for 27.2 percent of total lending.

TAIPEI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- A televised debate among three candidates for Taiwan's next deputy leader was staged Saturday, highlighting cross-Strait political and economic issues, for next month's Taiwan leader election.The three candidates touched upon topics such as stances on the reunification of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland and the "Taiwan independence," last year's signing of the cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), among other cross-Strait issues, during the second face-to-face debate before the Jan. 14, 2012 election.Wu Den-yih, who is incumbent Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou's running mate and currently chief of Taiwan's executive authority, said the signing of the ECFA aims to "help people do business and enhance Taiwan's competitiveness." TEHRAN, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Iran is going to launch domestically- built Navid satellite by Safir satellite launcher by the end of March 2012, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Sunday.Navid (promise) is a research satellite and is currently undergoing pre-launch tests, said the report without further details.In June, Iran put the Rasad (surveillance) satellite in the orbit to render images to the country.Iran put a satellite into orbit in 2009 and sent some small animals into space in 2010.
