SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 10News was there as an emotional burglary victim was reunited with her stolen Pekachu puppy.Ashley Morales was overcome with emotion as young Lorenz Lugg placed her 4-month-old puppy back in her arms. "I can't believe it. I never thought I would get him back," said Morales.On Monday, a distraught Morales sat down with 10news after a Sunday morning burglary at her Spring Valley condo on Madrid Way. As her children slept inside, a neighbor's surveillance cameras captured several suspects as they walked in and out of the condo. Missing from the home: a television, jewelry, and Snuffles the Pekachu."I just want my dog back," said Morales, as she pleaded for her puppy's return. What she didn't know was that her puppy was at Payd 2 Fade barber shop in the College Area. Shop owner Roc Lugg says early Monday afternoon, a man resembling the suspect in the video came in with a story."He had the dog, but was homeless and living out of his vehicle. Couldn't afford to take care of the dog anymore," said Lugg. When Lugg saw how well the dog was interacting with his own dog, he decided to purchase the puppy to give him a better home. He paid 0. Later that day, his wife got a big shock as she was watching 10news. She realized their new puppy was actually someone else's. Their young son led the charge to reunite puppy and owner."I was desperate to find them and give it back to them. He needed to be home," said Lorenz Lugg.The family called 10news and we called Morales. ="I'm glad humanity is still thriving ... I'm over the moon. I got my baby back. I can't believe it," said Morales.Morales did give the family a reward to help cover the money they spent on the purchase. No arrests have been made in the burglary investigation. 1769

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two major freeway connectors in San Diego will be closed overnight for routine maintenance, Caltrans announced.The southbound Interstate 5 connector to eastbound state Route 52 near La Jolla and the southbound Interstate 15 connector to westbound Interstate 8 in the Mission Valley East area will both be closed at 3 a.m. Saturday, with the I-15 closure expected to reopen at 8:30 a.m. and the I-5 closure set to reopen at 9 a.m.Caltrans crews will be performing landscape maintenance at the I-5 junction with SR-52. Those needing to head east on from the interstate to the highway will be directed to drive past the closed junction, exit at Clairemont Drive, get on northbound I-5 and then take SR-52 east.The closure in Mission Valley will allow Caltrans crews to make electrical repairs. Signs on southbound I-15 during the repair work will direct drivers to exit the interstate at El Cajon Boulevard and reenter the northbound lanes of I-15 to connect with westbound I-8.Caltrans reminded drivers to be work-zone alert by avoiding distracted driving, paying attention to traffic and slowing down when approaching work zones. 1154

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Border Patrol agent was sentenced Wednesday for trying to smuggle drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border while on duty in 2016.Noe Lopez, 37, of Chula Vista, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and cocaine in exchange for cash. He pled guilty to the charges in June 2017.Investigators say the former Border Patrol agent agreed to pick up backpacks containing the drugs from the north side of the border while on duty. Undercover DEA agents used substances resembling drugs in the backpack drops.RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug , weapons chargesIn a conversation with an undercover agent, Lopez discussed the area known as "Goat Canyon" as a preferred location, according to investigators, saying "Honestly, the thing is that there aren’t—there aren’t any cameras. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release.
