NASA has unveiled its billion plan to send the first woman to the moon.On Monday, the agency said they hope to have a woman and man land on the moon in 2024.“With bipartisan support from Congress, our 21st-century push to the Moon is well within America’s reach,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine in the press release. “As we’ve solidified more of our exploration plans in recent months, we’ve continued to refine our budget and architecture. We’re going back to the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and inspiration for a new a generation of explorers. As we build up a sustainable presence, we’re also building momentum toward those first human steps on the Red Planet.”The last time humans landed on the lunar surface was 1972, the agency said. While on the moon, the astronauts will collect samples and conduct experiments for a week before heading home on Orion. 901

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police District 2 officers were heartbroken to find a dog abandoned for several days in a cold pickup truck.Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee crews were there just in time to see the rescue as police broke into the truck at 17th and National Avenue.Parking tickets on the windshield show it had been there since Saturday. As of Tuesday morning, the car still remains at that location. There was no food or water inside, but the seats were soiled with feces.Despite all of this, the dog seemed to be in good spirits.Offices took it to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, better known as MADACC.Doctor Libby Gutting checked him out. She tells us you should call police if you see a dog alone in a vehicle for more than an hour."An animal could suffer from hypothermia or even pass away from that so we definitely don't want to leave animals outside in any sort of condition especially for a car that's not running," said Dr. Gutting, Medical Director of MADACC.Dr. Gutting said the pitbull is in great shape. If his owner does not come in to claim him in five days, he could go up for adoption."Our concern is that this person has an issue with the way they need to care for their pet which means they need help," said Dr. Gutting. The captain with Milwaukee Police District 2 told WTMJ the owner, in this case, could face an animal cruelty charge.  1419

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville author shared a beautiful example of confronting racial bias.Carlos Whittaker says he formed a bias against his neighbor who has a large American flag draped on his front door and two white bunny statues in his front yard.In the four years the two have been neighbors, Whittaker says the neighbor in his 70s never acknowledged him, even when he waved, smiled or shouted “morning.”"My racial bias thought this old, white man who ignored me, with an American flag hanging in front of his door, in the Deep South, didn't like brown people," said Whittaker. "That's a bias that I had. We all have biases, right." On Monday, Whittaker says he spotted the man walk out his front door with a can of paint and he proceeded to paint one of his white bunnies black. The sight brought Whittaker to tears.“For the next 12 hours I was trying to come up with 1,000 other reasons why he painted that bunny black,” wrote Whittaker on Instagram. “Besides the reason my gut was telling me.”So, when Whittaker spotted his neighbor in his driveway the next day, he walked across the street to ask him why he painted the statue. The man said he was trying to “gently” show his support for the African America community, “with the motivation of what’s going on in the country.”According to Whittaker, the small act of kindness was his neighbor's way of saying black lives matter, because he couldn't go downtown to the protests. Whittaker proceeded to tell his neighbor that he’s trying to help his friends realize that we all can develop some form of racial bias against others.“There’s this thing called racial bias that I’m trying to help my friends understand that they have,” said Whittaker to the man. “Whereas, someone like me that travels full-time for a living will normally have a bias that says, ‘oh look it’s an older white gentleman with an American flag up on his door,’ that my bias automatically says, ‘he may not like me.’”Whittaker went on to express his gratitude for the neighbor’s kind act and then he apologized.“I just wanted to tell you that I’m so grateful and that I apologize if I ever assumed anything, because that’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen,” said Whittaker to the neighbor.Whittaker posted the touching moment with his neighbor to social media, encouraging others to have uncomfortable conversations and to admit their own biases.“Protests may change policy,” wrote Whitaker. “But conversations change communities.” 2486

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Buck McCoy is just one of many survivors from Nashville's Christmas explosion. Friday night he stayed at a friend's house but said he's not sure what's left of his Lofts at 160 home."About 5:30 or so I heard some gunshots - it sounded like four or five, maybe six gunshots. I looked out the window and didn't see anything," said McCoy. That's when he went back to bed, a decision he believes saved his life."Within maybe ten minutes of that a huge explosion, which completely ripped the walls apart of my house, stuff was coming down on me, there was dust everywhere," McCoy said.He got out of bed to find his face and hands bleeding from broken glass and debris. "You know I was looking out the window just ten minutes before the whole explosion, so if I had picked that moment where it exploded to be looking out the window, I feel very lucky on this Christmas to be here. It was that close," he said.McCoy managed to capture cell phone video immediately after the blast as people desperately looked for safety. "I was really thinking that there was some kind of a war going on and that this could be something that I wouldn't get through, that I would not make it through," McCoy said.He eventually walked to a friend's house where he has been staying ever since. McCoy said at one point he did go back home to look for his cat but firemen sent him away. He said he has not been able to return since. This story was first published by Olivia Michael at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 1511
