(KGTV) — As fair season gets underway, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns attendees to practice safe hygiene at petting zoos and around animals.Animals in exhibits can can incredibly educational and fun, but can also put visitors at risk of various germs that can make people sick, including E. Coli and salmonella. From 2010-2015, the CDC said about 100 outbreaks were reported linked to animals in public settings like fairs, zoos, and farms.If interacting with animals — such as feeding, holding, or petting — or touching exhibit areas, guests should wash their hands afterward. Even if visitors don't interact with any animals, germs can still be spread from surfaces around exhibits.Running water and soap are best to use, but if not available, the CDC recommends using an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. If gloves are worn, the CDC still recommends washing hands afterward.Especially at fairgrounds, food can find its way into animal exhibit areas. The CDC warns that visitors should not eat or drink around animals or their living areas. Food shouldn't be shared with animals and visitors should not eat or drink any raw, or unpateurized products.For parents, always supervise children around animals. Children 5 years old and younger should not have any contact with reptiles, amphibians, or live poultry because those animals are more likely to make them sick, according to the CDC.Parents should also leave strollers, toys, pacifiers, and cups outside animal exhibit areas. (KGTV) -- A fire that tore through a Chula Vista playground overnight is being investigated as suspicious, the Chula Vista Fire Department says.The fire was reported just after 4:50 a.m. at the Veterans Park Community Center. Video of the scene shows roaring flames erupting from the playground before a loud explosion is audible. At this time, the department says the fire is under investigation as suspicious. Several other residential and business fires also took place overnight Saturday and into the early morning. The first fire damaged an El Cajon home on the 1700 block of Hacienda Place just before 3:30 a.m. One person was injured due to smoke inhalation. Heartland Fire and Rescue says one man was found in the backyard of the home with minor injuries. Another person suffered smoke inhalation.The blaze is under investigation by the El Cajon Police Department and the Sheriff Department’s Bomb and Arson unit.The second fire burned through the La Tiendita Mexican Market on the 3800 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard around 9 a.m. Saturday. (KGTV) — A high-speed pursuit took San Diego Police from Mid-City to La Mesa Thursday before the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.San Diego Police were pursuing the driver on Interstate 8 before he exited the highway at Spring St. in La Mesa, at about 5 p.m. The driver continued to drive in and out of traffic on surface streets before rear-ending a vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot. Police told 10News they tried to stop the man, later identified as Dontae Smith, 28, in connection to a burglary. During the chase, Smith ran into several cars before getting out and running across train tracks. Police began combing the trolley station at Date Ave. and Spring St. as well as a nearby residential area.At about 5:15 p.m., police took Smith into custody. Police say they found a gun in his car.Police says Smith is the suspect in a burglary reported in the 4400 block of Dawson Avenue. An officer tried to pull over a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle leaving the scene. Instead they say Smith raced off.Smith is facing several charges including prowling, violation of parole, evading police, and other charges stemming from the pursuit.
