"China is concerned about the US side's serious trade protectionist tendency in the field of steel products," a Ministry of Commerce (MOC) statement quoted an official as saying.
"China is so integral to global supply chains for many products that a good portion - but not all - of the tariff impact will be passed onto US consumers. US firms will be the bigger losers," he added.
"By launching these activities, we want to reduce barriers between people on both sides of the Straits and promote mutual understanding," he said.
"China is our most important economic relationship and biggest trading partner, strengthening that relationship will contribute to Victoria's growing economy and create jobs."
"CIIE not only displays the development and rise of China under the policy of reform and opening-up but also presents a national image that is open, innovative, inclusive, reciprocal and committed to promoting the development of regional and global economies in the new era," he said.
