A federal judge ruled on Thursday in favor of journalists and legal observers as part of a temporary restraining order involving the response of federal agents in Portland. The ruling comes less than one day after federal agents protecting a federal courthouse in the Oregon city deployed tear gas at protesters.Among those who was tear gassed was Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who objected to the presence of federal agents in the city. The ruling says that federal agents cannot detain legal observers and journalists, nor can federal agents confiscate equipment used by journalists.President Donald Trump ordered federal agents to guard federal buildings and courthouses in major cities. Trump said he blames Democratic mayors for not getting a handle on the unrest that at times has become violent.“We can solve the problem very easily,” Trump said. “We're equipped with the best equipment, the best people. And you see what we're doing. I mean, Portland was coming down. It was busting at the seams and we went into protected all the federal buildings, those federal buildings that totally protected.”But the ACLU of Oregon has pushed back on the administration's response to the unrest, calling the deployment of federal agents an “escalation.”“This is a fight to save our democracy,” said Kelly Simon, interim legal director with the ACLU of Oregon. “Under the direction of the Trump administration, federal agents are terrorizing the community, risking lives, and brutally attacking protesters demonstrating against police brutality. This is police escalation on top of police escalation. These federal agents must be stopped and removed from our city. We will continue to bring the full fire power of the ACLU to bear until this lawless policing ends.”Thursday’s ruling comes after the ACLU and others claimed that the rights of journalists and legal observers were being violated. A freelance photographer, Mathieu Lewis-Rolland, tweeted video he says is of federal agents firing projectiles at him. Video of the incident can be seen here (note, video contains strong language).According to the Portland Police Department, protesters threw a “flaming item” into the federal courthouse on Wednesday. That’s when federal agents addressed the crowd. The police also reported incidents of vandalism and arsons stemming from Wednesday’s demonstration. 2360

A family celebrating a birthday in the Wisconsin Dells ended up with bed bug bites for souvenirs. When Aisha Carr and the group of young girls checked into the resort they had big expectations. They wanted to have some fun, but they also wanted some clean comforters and not to be eaten alive by bedbugs. They woke up to the bites Saturday morning at the Baker’s Sunset Bay Resort."I started feeling around and I just so happened to scratch my arm and I felt like lines of bites," Carr said.Photos show Carr and some of the girls swelling up everywhere, covered in ugly red bedbug bites. The front desk was then immediately called."Our trip was pretty much ruined from that point,” Carr said, “It's just disheartening and upsetting. It was very humiliating."Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee reached out to the resort and an employee confirmed the bedbug case over the phone, saying Carr was provided compensation for her stay. She said they have an extremely clean resort, but with people coming and going all the time they believe someone brought them in.Carr said after going there for the past 12 years that may have been her last trip."Just all around a bad experience," she said. "It's no excuse for it, it's a zero tolerance."The employee at the resort added that a professional pest control company came to the resort Monday to treat the room. Carr said she has been using over the county allergy medicine to treat the bites. The creepy crawlers can be hard to spot and it's best to find the problem early. The EPA has some tips on what to look for. First, look for rusty or red-colored stains on bed sheets or mattresses. Secondly, the bugs also like to hide in seams of furniture and appliances so check there.WTMJ also reached out to the Sauk County Health Department and they said there have been no complaints relating to this resort since 2009.  1898

A federal court has ruled that President Donald Trump cannot constitutionally block his followers in Twitter.Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald of the US district court in the Southern District of New York ruled that public officials may not block a person from his Twitter account based on the that person's political views — and Trump's position as President had no bearing on the case. The case was brought by Columbia University's Knight First Amendment Institute and filed against President Trump, former White House communications director Hope Hicks, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and social media director Dan Scavino.More on this as it develops. 677

A family in Tennessee was able to escape their burning house thanks to their neighbor's rescue dog.The home in the Franklin, Tennessee neighborhood of Twin Oaks was seriously damaged in a fire caused by fireworks, officials say.Neighbor Jess LeCates said his 3-year-old Belgian malinois Roux was barking frantically at his front door around 10:20 p.m., about an hour after the homeowner threw fireworks near a trashcan outside, sparking the fire.Roux noticed the fire and led LeCates to the home where the roof and garage were already on fire. LeCates said he started banging on his neighbor's door to wake up the family of three and get them out of the house."I tried to put out the fire while the lady who lived there called 911," LeCates said. Thanks to Roux, everyone inside the home, including their pets, were able to escape unharmed. The Fire Marshal said the fire burned through some exterior features and much of the attic, causing an estimated ,000 in damage.Consumer fireworks are prohibited in Franklin.WTVF first reported this story. 1055
