A Tokyo skyscraper is set to become the world's tallest wooden building.Japanese company Sumitomo Forestry says its 1,148-feet-tall timber tower will be completed in 2041, to mark the 350th anniversary of the business that year. The W350 tower will cost an estimated 600 billion yen (.6 billion) to build.The 70-story tower will be a hybrid structure made from 90% wooden materials. A steel vibration-control framework will underpin the design -- an important feature in a city where earthquakes are frequent.Green balconies will populate the skyscraper's exterior, connecting the building to its environment."The aim is to create environmentally-friendly and timber-utilizing cities where (cities) become forests through increased use of wooden architecture for high-rise buildings," the company said in a press release.The Japanese government is trying to encourage more developers to use wood. A new warning Tuesday cautions toxic chemicals were discovered in several popular back-to-school items. Everything from crayons and markers, to binders and water bottles.The U.S. Public Interest Research (USPIRG) groups tested 27 school supplies and found that some of them contained toxic chemicals like asbestos, lead, benzine and phthalates, which have been linked to cancer and other health hazards.“You can't assume that things are automatically safe when they're on our store shelves,” says Danny Katz, with USPIRG.Katz's team found Playskool crayon from Dollar Tree had trace amounts of asbestos. But that wasn't it.A blue jot band binder from Dollar Tree tested positive for phthalates.  Additionally, dry erase markers from Amazon tested positive for benzine, even though the packaging says nontoxic.“Just because a product says nontoxic like that, doesn't mean it's been tested for all the different chemicals,” Katz explains.Katz says what you should look for is a symbol, which confirms the product has been tested and approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.His team has put together a list for parents and teachers of products that tested positive for toxic chemicals and those that didn't.“There's just no reason that these chemicals need to be in the school supplies,” Katz says. “There's plenty of school supplies that don't have them. A teacher at Dickson Intermediate School in Tennessee launched an emergency lunch money fund for students after an interaction with one child inspired her to help children in need."As I was walking through the cafeteria one day, I saw a child with no tray and no drink just stopped to build those relationships as teacher do, and just asked are you not eating? Do you need something?" said sixth grade literary teacher Julie Potter. "His comment was mom said we’re out of money so I can’t eat today."Potter told the student to grab lunch, on her.But she said she realized that was a short term solution."I thought if I could just donate just a few dollars to set up an account so the next time, the next child will feel safe enough to go through the line without worrying about pride and be fed," Potter said.So Potter put out a post on Facebook, detailing her interaction with the student and a plan to help others."I share this message to say I would like to set up a special lunch account called 1 in 4," the post read. "This account would be for those students, just a handful and only as needed, we see going without food.
