RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers believe drugs or alcohol are likely factors in a crash that injured three people Tuesday near State Route 67 west of Ramona. A truck and two cars collided on Dye Road at Lansdown Lane about 4:30 p.m., the CHP reported. The white Mercedes had been traveling west on Dye Road and speeding when it crossed into oncoming traffic, witnesses told the CHP.The Mercedes clipped a blue Subaru and hit a Toyota Tacoma pickup head-on, officers said.The crash blocked the roadway and sent debris across lanes. Video from Sky10 showed the front end of the Mercedes was missing, and the roof of the truck was sheared off.Cal Fire crews, possibly from the Ramona station two-tenths of a mile away, were seen rescuing a person from a 77-year-old man from the seat of the truck. The men in the Mercedes and the truck suffered major injuries, the CHP confirmed. The woman in the Subaru had minor injuries. Helicopters landed in a nearby field to take patients to the hospital. Border Patrol says 35-year-old Michael Domenech approached the checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, in a car at about 2 a.m. Saturday.When agents approached the driver, he drove away from the checkpoint. Authorities say agents used a tire deflation device to deflate one of the car's tires.The pursuit continued for 20 minutes until Domenech was taken into custody.Domenech is wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Cory Vargas in Providence on Sept. 24. 640

RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Ramona family is grieving the loss of a 14-year-old boy, killed Tuesday night while riding a skateboard on a residential street."He was really happy and so charismatic. He loved his family, loved to skateboard," said Amber Krapf, Logan Krapf's mother.Logan was on his skateboard, just before 7:30 p.m that night in a neighborhood in the San Diego Country Estates. He was on Barona Mesa Road near a streetlight with two friends, one on a skateboard, another on a bike.His friends say they were wearing helmets in the streets, and going from right to left in the road, headed toward a golf course, when the headlights on a pickup appeared around a curve.Two of the boys managed to get to the roadside, but Logan did not, as the truck struck him. His mother Amber got the call and raced to the scene."Everyone around me was crying. I was number and just in shock that this could happen," said Amber.By the time she arrived, her son had passed."I kissed him. Told him that I loved him. Told him goodbye, that it was okay," said a tearful Amber.CHP investigators say the driver, a 20-year-old man, did stop and performed CPR. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor, but Amber believes speed was. The speed limit is 25."An officer said he admitted on scene that he was going at least 45 ... My son’s friends say ... it was closer to 55," said Amber.Days later, flowers and candles stand where a young life was cut short, weeks before his birthday and first-ever football practice at Ramona High."He loved football.
