According to the American Psychological Association, two in three adults say this election has been a major source of worry. Now health experts say that stress could also affect our children.Child and adult psychiatrist Dr. Judith Joseph has some advice for parents to help manage their children's anxiety during this time of unrest.She says it starts with communication. When there's a lot of stress in the environment, Dr. Joseph says that also cause the cortisol levels to also go up causing you to lose focus. It's important to talk to your children to find out how they're feeling.Next, use the election as a teaching moment and reassure them they are safe no matter the outcome. Create a project that involves kids learning about the voting process and how government works. Also, limit news exposure. Getting too much screen time can only lead to more anxiety.Furthermore, while creating a large change may be a bit of a stretch, Dr. Joseph urges parents to be honest about what’s happening in the world and focus on empowering our youth by allowing them to give back locally.Finally, encourage kids to keep a journal. Three people trapped in an inactive West Virginia mine for several days were rescued on Wednesday, state officials said.The three West Virginia residents were brought to the surface and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, Samantha Smith, a spokesperson with the West Virginia Department of Commerce, told CNN late Wednesday.Kayla Williams, 25 of Artie; Erica Treadway, 31, of Pax and Cody Beverly, 21 of Dorothy, were alert, talking and walking without assistance, Raleigh County Sheriff Scott Van Meter said in an interview. He said the three had snacks and water with them."It's a miracle they were found alive," the sheriff said.Williams, Treadway and Beverly were among a group of four people who were reported missing Saturday after an abandoned ATV they were believed to be riding was found near the entrance of the Rock House Powellton mine in Clear Creek, according to a statement from West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice.One person, Eddie Williams, 43 of Artie, emerged late Monday, according to the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training.He said the three people left trapped were alive and gave authorities details of their location, according to Justice's office.Rescue teams failed to find them Monday and Tuesday. But had been removing standing water from the mine and pumping in fresh air, and by Wednesday, more access space had been cleared, allowing more rescuers to enter, Justice's office said.The underground mine is inactive and sealed, Contura Energy, whose affiliate Elk Run Coal owns the property, told CNN, adding that the person who made it out "was apprehended by law enforcement."This is the second trespassing incident at an abandoned mine reported in the last two weeks, Justice said in the statement.Van Meter said the three who were found alive on Wednesday could possibly be charged because they were not supposed to be in the mine.But first, the sheriff said, "they need to enjoy being rescued." 1973

Things at grocery stores seem relatively calm now, in comparison to how it was back in March. Remember the toilet paper fiasco?But as we hear talk about another wave of coronavirus infections, some are wondering if grocery supplies will take another hit.We went to experts who track grocery data. They say what we saw earlier this year was historic.“Those mid-March weeks were the largest we've seen in the history of grocery shopping. I don't expect to ever see big waves like that again,” said Anne-Marie Roerink, President of 210 Analytics.People first stocked up on just cleaning items and then they started stocking up on all types of items, including pantry foods and that precious commodity – toilet paper.Roerink says that while it is possible people will stockpile again later this year, toilet paper may not be on the list. Cleaning items may become hard to find again. The timing of all this really depends on the virus and how cases evolve.“Should it come down to where the virus is big enough of a wave or we might go back down to a shelter in place, or where people feel more safe at home than they do out and about, I can see where our grocery spending will go back up,” said Roerink.Earlier this year, holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day actually contributed to the clearing of grocery shelves. They’re typically holidays where we go out to eat, but that wasn't really an option in most places. So, people had to improvise.“All of a sudden, retail had to absorb all those dollars to take care of mom and cook her a fun brunch or dinner, so we had an enormous peak again for Mother's Day and Father's Day,” said Roerink.That means holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas could change how things work out at the grocery store as well.Generally, supply and demand has started to normalize, but grocery sales are still about 10% higher than what they normally are. There are currently only a few treatments in helping to fight COVID-19, and one is antibodies from a Coronavirus survivor. But gay men wanting to donate are being faced with hurdles.A donation ban started with a 1980s restriction in the height of the AIDS and HIV crisis when the federal government created a lifetime ban on blood donations from gay men.The rule was replaced in 2015 with a regulation that requires a year of abstinence to donate blood.In April of this year, the FDA revised the abstinence period for gay men to donate blood or plasma from 12 months to three months in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.Chris Sanders with the Tennessee Equality Project says this is a start but these guidelines are not created equal."My call to action would be that the Congress of the United States will hold hearings on this rule and put pressure on the FDA to make this change," said Sanders.As the American Red Cross is pushing for more COVID-19 survivors to donate their antibodies to help sick patients, Sanders says some who are willing to help are being turned away."I talked to a gay man in East Nashville today who has survived COVID-19, and I asked him if the ban weren’t in place would you consider plasma donation and he said he would," said Sanders, "There are potential donors in Tennessee who would get turned away because of this unscientific, outdated FDA rule."Gay rights advocates say if this country wants to save more lives it will review what they call outdated policies.This story was originally reported by Kelsey Gibbs at WTVF. 1565

TORONTO, Canada (KGTV) - Incredible dash cam video shows tires flying after a car hit a tow truck Saturday on a Toronto, Canada highway.The camera attached to Adil Kanan’s tow truck was recording the moments Kanan stepped out to help three people in a disabled pickup truck."They seemed to be all alert and fine," he told CTV Toronto.RELATED: Tow truck driver seriously injured in crash on SR-125Karan returned to his truck to alert police that his vehicle and a truck were blocking one lane of the freeway."As I was sitting there looking through my back window, that's when I observed the white Lexus approaching at a high rate of speed," he said.The white vehicle hit the pickup truck, sending debris flying.RELATED: Bear opens door, steals from car in Lake TahoeOne of the pickup truck’s passengers had been standing outside the truck and was thrown into the guardrail.Two people inside the truck were ejected, and the driver ended up face-down on the highway.
