Some voters in a North Florida county hit hard by Hurricane Michael submitted their ballots by fax and email -- a practice that runs afoul of guidance issued by Florida election officials in October.Bay County Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen told CNN that he and his staff had worked with 158 voters displaced by Michael to allow them to cast ballots by email and fax, despite the Florida Department of State saying that voting by fax or email "is not an option."Andersen said, "That was the only method available to voters that were displaced from the hurricane.""We would send them a ballot via email just like we would to the extent with our overseas voters. They would get it, they would vote it; 147 of them actually faxed it back to us after they voted it," he said. "Additionally, past attempts by other states to allow voters impacted by natural disasters to fax or email ballots have been rife with issues."Republicans, including Rick Scott and President Donald Trump, have alleged that there is "fraud" in the state's election process, despite repeated denials from the Florida Department of State. The accusations have been leveled at the Democratic counties of Palm Beach and Broward. ST JOSEPH, Mo. — A couple rushed to save a dog’s life after she was shot and left for dead in the woods.Jacob Carter, his fiance Robin Musser, and a few other family members were out hunting for mushrooms Thursday in the Bluffwoods Conservation Area just south of St. Joseph, Missouri.The group was just finishing up when they heard gunshots."We heard two gunshots, and we were coming on out anyway and stuff, getting ready to pack up and leave,” said Carter.Musser said the gunfire didn’t worry them since it’s common during turkey hunting season. "We'd seen a turkey earlier, thought maybe someone was shooting at the turkey,” she said.As they were driving out of the woods, something caught Musser’s eye."We were coming down the road and I spotted the dog and thought it was a puppy,” said Musser.Carter pulled over to go see if the dog was okay.As he walked closer he noticed it was an adult dog that wasn’t moving, and then he saw blood."That's when I noticed that she was shot, so I took my shirt off and started applying pressure,” said Carter.The white female pitbull had been shot twice, once in the back of the head and once through her ear. 1184

September Buys, a teacher in Michigan, says she doesn't really like garage sales, and that should tell you just how far she will go to help her students this year.Buys, an art teacher at Crossroads Middle School in Grand Rapids, said she was feeling helpless about all the uncertainty surrounding the school year-- and decided to channel her frustration into cleaning."I just started cleaning out my closet, because that felt better, just to let some things go," she said. "I made a pile, and then I moved onto the girls’ closet, and then I moved onto the toy room, and just this pile grew and grew and grew.”The idea came to her to hold a garage sale to give away the items. She also reached out to the community on Facebook, asking if others had items they wanted to contribute as well.Instead of selling what's been collected, Buys asked people to donate art supplies or purchase items off the Amazon wishlist she created to help her students.“I think it’s really, really important for people to connect with each other and be kind to each other and if you have something extra, why not share it? Things are things… I think what’s more important for me right now is to make sure that my students are cared for and that they have the things they need to feel like they can express what’s going on, they can kind of get some of that stuff out, and the more materials and stuff I have for my students, the better.”Buys plans to take all the art supplies to create individual 'art kits' for her students."We always need help with purchasing supplies – but this year especially, whether the kids are at home or whether they’re in person, they’re not going to be able to share supplies in the same way. I can’t take one package of pencils and put it in the middle of the table for kids to share anymore.
