SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric warned customers that the company may have to shut off power to some rural residents due to Santa Ana winds.The notifications come as the Valley Fire rages and a red flag warning remains through 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The company said it notified more than 16,000 customers about the possible public safety power shutoffs. Notified residents should be prepared to be without power through Thursday, SDG&E said.The Valley Fire has scorched more than 17,000 acres and is 11% contained as of Wednesday morning. 567

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Supervisors and the charity organization responsible for running a shelter for asylum seekers responded Wednesday to the county’s lawsuit against the heads of government agencies. The County of San Diego filed the lawsuit Wednesday against Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Ronald D. Vitiello, Immigrant and Customs Enforcement Executive Associate Director Matthew T. Albence, Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Kevin K. McAleenan, and Chief of Border Patrol Carla L. Provost. The suit claims the end of the “Safe Release” program, which provided migrants with aid needed to leave San Diego County, was unlawful. The County of San Diego wants to reinstate the policy, which ended last fall, and be reimbursed for the cost of supporting asylum seekers in the following months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County announced Wednesday if the county continues to hit state triggers with the spread of the coronavirus, museums, zoos and aquariums could be on the long list of closures Monday.The measures apply to any indoor activities.Balboa Park just reopened the Air and Space Museum two weeks ago, after everything closed down in March due to the pandemic."We want to make sure people come back to the park, it is the cultural heart of San Diego," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said this weekend more of our favorite museums are set to open. Friday the Science Center, the Veterans Museum, the Natural History Museum and the International Gift Shop are set to reopen, with three more museums opening Saturday July 4.The possibility those openings could be short-lived is something Comiskey says they're ready for."We're certainly hoping all the people of San Diego County are really able to pull together and make sure the infection rate and the case load and all these lovely metrics, these important metrics can be contained and can be controlled," he said hopefully.Comiskey said if they have to close Monday after putting so many precautions and time in to ensure the park is safe, they will.Looking to the future, he said they're brainstorming how to bring in money to help these cherished icons survive."I think as time goes on we need to look at what fund-raising is possible, I think we need to look with those organizations that rely on revenue through the gate." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego firefighters found themselves in an unusual position Thursday, battling flames inside a city water tower. The fire broke out as crews were demolishing the tower on federal property in Point Loma. Officials said some of the materials the demolition team was using to cut the tank apart caught the scaffolding on fire. “The wind today drove that fire and blew it very quickly,” a firefighter told 10News. With much of the tower covered in plastic, firefighters had to go inside, climbing through scaffolding with their hoses. “The potential for three rescues and the hook and ladder trucks out here, I thought maybe this is a serious event but they seem to have it completely under control,” said neighbor Casey Schnoor. Firefighters spent the afternoon hosing down the rest of the tower as a precaution. 839
