A 6-year-old boy stood crying in front of a gas station convenience store trying to find help for a man he thought was “choking,” Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies say.That man, Jose Bermudez, was overdosing on heroin, deputies wrote in an arrest report.Bermudez smoked heroin earlier in the day and then picked the boy up from school on April 23, Bermudez said in the report. He drove with the boy in the car to the Speedway Gas Station at 5019 Okeechobee Blvd in suburban West Palm Beach.The next thing he says he remembers was waking up in the hospital.A friend happened to call Bermudez at the time of the alleged overdose and the 6-year-old answered. When the friend heard choking noises in the background, the friend told the boy to go find help, the report states.A man came up to the boy in front of the store and asked what was wrong. He said Bermudez was choking and needed help.Deputies arrived on scene and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue took Bermudez to the hospital for treatment. Once he was discharged, deputies placed him under arrest. Bermudez is facing a child neglect charge for failing to provide the boy with proper care as a person responsible for the child’s welfare, court records show.Bermudez was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and released on ,000 bond. 1323

(KGTV) -- Tuesday, SpaceX launchged several satellites into orbit that will replace a satellite network and monitor climate change. The Iridium-6/GRACE-FO satellites were launched just before 1 p.m. from Vandenberg Air Force Base. For this particular mission, SpaceX launched five Iridium NEXT satellites as part of the company's campaign to replace the world's largest commercial satellite network. A total of eight Iridium NEXT launches are planned with the company that will send into orbit 75 new satellites. Also on board the Falcon 9 rocket will be satellites that will monitor the movement of earth's mass for NASA and the German Research Centre for Geosciences.Watch the launch in the player below:  775

Since 1900, global sea level has risen 8 inches, dramatically increasing the odds of coastal flooding and damaging floods from storm surge. According to Climate Central, nearly 5 million people live less than 4 feet above high tide across the United States, and scientists expect roughly another 2 to 7 more feet of sea level rise this century.Imperial Beach is one of the most vulnerable in California to sea-level rise as it experiences flooding during periods of extreme high tides and winter swell. 10News looked into a program designed to give people ample warning, called The Resilient Futures program. The goal is to create a flood alert system through a network of instruments to measure local wave and water levels monitored by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography giving scientists and emergency managers a 3 to 4 day head-start to help determine where extreme tides may occur."It is something people are concerned about, and they want to know how often is this likely to occur. As sea levels continue to rise, what’s the change and risk as time goes on.” says Mark Merrifield, the Director of the Coastal Data Information Program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He goes on to say, “just like it helps to have a weather forecast if there’s going to be an extreme rain event or wind event coming up. A 24-year-old man assaulted an officer, stole his gun and turned the firearm on himself at Brandywine Country Club Wednesday morning, Summit County Sheriff's Office said.Police responded at around 5:19 a.m. to the Brandywine Country Club for reports of damaged property. Brandywine is located in Peninsula, which is midway between Cleveland and Akron.When the responding officer arrived, he found a 24-year-old man on the property. During their encounter, the man assaulted the officer, striking him in the head and knocking him to the ground.As the officer laid semi-conscious on the ground, the man removed the officer's service weapon from his holster. An employee at the golf course went to assist the officer as the man who struck him fled on foot.A short time later, the officer and the employee heard a shot fired in the distance.Several officers arrived on scene to conduct a perimeter check of the property. The man was found lying on the golf course with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the sheriff's office reports.He was taken to Akron City Hospital-Summa Health, where he was later pronounced dead.The assaulted officer was treated and released from the hospital.The shooting remains under investigation. 1252
