SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Nearly 6,000 San Diego workers have reportedly been laid off amid the coronavirus outbreak, but the actual number could be 60 times higher, according to officials at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. The agency estimates there are at least 350,000 San Diego workers at risk of losing their jobs, the majority of them in service sectors like hotels, restaurants and retail, where there is no option to work from home. However, the state has eliminated the 60-day public layoff notification requirement amid the outbreak, so it is unclear how many people are no longer working. It is focusing on finding employers who have a need today, such as those in delivery, transportation and logistics. It is also working with Amazon to set up mobile job expos. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a man died following a fight in downtown San Diego Monday. Police were called to the intersection of 11th Avenue and Market Street just before 6 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from trauma to his upper body. Medics provided life-saving measures and the man, later identified as 56 year-old Kevin Leray Hughes, was taken to the hospital where he later died. According to police, the victim and suspect got into an argument. “The interaction escalated, resulted in the victim’s death,” police say. The suspect, described as a black man in his 20s last seen wearing burgundy pants, a red hooded sweatshirt and black under shirt, fled the scene after the fight. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One man is behind bars Saturday after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through North San Diego County, ending at a Riverside County casino.Augustine Robinson was arrested inside Pechanga Casino, after leading deputies on a pursuit that began in San Marcos, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.Deputies said Robinson stopped at a Shell gas station at 400 Sycamore Ave. in Vista at about 5:30 a.m. and told the clerk to put an undisclosed amount of money on a pump. The clerk reportedly told Robinson he had to pay for the fuel but Robinson gestured toward his pocket and said, "You should put it on the pump."MAP: Track crime in your neighborhoodThe clerk, thinking Robinson had a weapon, did as he demanded. Robinson also grabbed a drink from a refrigerator before filling his car and leaving, deputies added.Deputies came across Robinson's suspected vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. A pursuit began and lasted for about 50 minutes, taking deputies through San Marcos, Vista, Escondido, and into Riverside County.The chase ended at Pechanga, where deputies said Robinson fled and was stopped just inside the casino entrance. No injuries were reported.Deputies have booked Robinson in the Vista Detention Facility and charged him with robbery and reckless evading. 1339

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- North County leaders, including city mayors and Supervisor Jim Desmond, joined Legoland officials Friday morning in a press conference demanding answers from the state as to when and how they can reopen.They said a letter was sent last week to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting that the state implement protocols to abide by to reopen, similar to what they established with schools.Legoland's park is mainly outdoors and has been closed since March. Their hotel opened in July and hotel guests can access the main promenade but the park wants to open its doors to the public. The park's president, Kurt Stocks, said Legoland has implemented safety guidelines for the attraction to operate outdoors with sanitizer stations, distance markers and temperature checks upon entering. Stocks said he and city leaders believe the state needs to implement guidelines for all businesses across San Diego county, indoor and outdoor, so employees who were furloughed or laid off can get back to work. At Friday's press conference, leaders also stated they constantly receive calls from residents with questions as to when they can open their businesses back up and hope to provide them with answers sooner than later. "We've heard very little and I recognize the state has to make decisions for businesses across California. but what we're doing today is calling on the state to recognize that San Diego attractions are safe to open." 1445
