VISTA (CNS) - A 59-year-old motorist was killed Friday in a solo crash on state Route 78 near Shadowridge Golf Club.The man lost control of the Ford F-150 for unknown reasons while driving in the far left-hand westbound lane of the freeway west of Sycamore Avenue in Vista shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The vehicle veered to the right, crossing all lanes before leaving the roadway, plunging down an embankment and striking a tree, CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.Paramedics took the motorist, an Oceanside resident, to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Between the hustle and bustle of serving hungry customers at Commune in Virginia Beach, you'll find small pops of beauty.That beauty took a new form on Friday when Dan Pew walked through the doors.He was visiting from Ohio with his fiance and said he wanted to spread love and positivity during his time in the Resort City.A few days before vacation, he was scrolling through the social media platform Tik Tok when he came across posts about the Venmo Challenge.It encourages people to give back to their community."You ask your social media followers - [it can be] your friends, your family, or businesses or anybody and you say 'hey if you want to donate through Venmo Challenge tag 'the awesome human being' or 'for the food service worker' and then you donate and then you surprise a food service worker with a tip," Pew said.Pew was inspired by the videos of people surprising waiters and waitresses, so he took the plea to his followers on social media.In a message he said, "We're going to Virginia Beach for vacation this week and we want to surprise a food service worker with a huge tip."After putting the challenge out there, the internet got to work. Pew racked up hundreds of dollars in his Venmo account in just a few days.Then on Friday, after being helped by Aubrey Seykerbuyk at Commune, Pew pulled out 0.Seykerbuyk recalled the moment that made her jaw drop to the ground, "He had like a wad of cash and started counting it out in front of me and I honestly didn't know like what was happening. WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans are proposing changes to police procedures and accountability, according to a draft of a bill obtained by The Associated Press.The JUSTICE Act — Just and Unifying Solutions To Invigorate Communities Everywhere Act of 2020 — would establish an enhanced use-of-force database, restrictions on chokeholds and new training and commissions to study law enforcement and race.In addition to the use-of-force database, the JUSTICE Act would also begin tracking — but would not ban — the use of no-knock warrants. In March, a Louisville woman named Breonna Taylor was killed when police entered her home on such a warrant.The JUSTICE Act is the most ambitious GOP policing proposal in years. It's a direct response to the massive public protests over the death of George Floyd and other black Americans.The package is set to be introduced Wednesday. As the outlines emerged, Democrats said it didn't go far enough.The Justice in Policing Act, a bill introduced by Democrats in the House last week, would introduce more sweeping changes, including a ban on police chokeholds. The Democrats' bill would also amend federal law to make it easier to charge police officers with civil rights violations.The introduction of the GOP bill will be introduced a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at changing police practices. Trump's order calls on police departments to utilize social workers in some emergency calls.
