Americans aren’t exercising like they used to.“I’ve definitely been walking a whole lot less since the coronavirus hit,” Nathan Martin said.With social distancing orders put into place, the pandemic has many people spending more time at home.“I was a little bit less active and more Netflix,” Hannah Hockensmith said.Now, a new study is showing this drop in physical activity is increasing health concerns across the globe.“COVID-19 is a worldwide phenomenon unlike anything else we’ve seen in generations,” said Dr. Geoff Tison, a cardiologist at the University of California, San Francisco.Tison recently finished a new study using smartphone apps to track the step counts from almost half a million people in countries worldwide.The data was collected from mid-January to early June and the findings show the world is walking a lot less.“Within the first month of the pandemic, declaration activity decreased by about 27%,” he said.Tison says this lack of physical activity could damage people’s health, especially in older adults.“With decreased activity, increased sitting on the couch, just not being as active is muscle mass can start to decrease as can bone density,” he said.In America, the study shows the biggest drop in step counts happened in New York City while Dallas had the smallest decrease.“The changes in activity seem to reflect adherence to social distancing at least to a degree,” Tison said.To increase exercise indoors, Tison says is all about thinking outside the box.“You can do similar exercises, work similar muscles with things around the house,” he said. “Use a gallon of milk instead of a dumbbell.”To exercise outdoors, however, Tison believes changes need to happen at the city and state levels.“Policy makers, governments need to be creative understanding that people are humans and want to be active and want do things,” he said. “But to enable them to do that safely.” 1913

But the pandemic hasn't only led to a spike in families planning out their estates, it's also changed the way couples are looking at end-of-life care.“What we’ve seen is this heightened sense of awareness of people’s mortality, which has created a heightened sense of urgency in the market, explained Denise McCarthy, an estate attorney in the Boston area.“I don’t think people have thought about ventilators the way they’re thinking about them now.”McCarthy is now recommending couples write in COVID-19 specific language to their wills, like what to do if one spouse ends up on a ventilator. She also says it's important to appoint a healthcare proxy, clearly putting a spouse or family member in charge of your medical care. ARCADIA (CNS) - A 2-year-old colt collapsed onto the turf during Sunday's third race at Santa Anita Park and was euthanized a short time later, becoming the first fatality of the track's racing season, which began Saturday."During race 3 at Santa Anita Park, Ebeko sustained an injury to his left front leg. Ebeko was immediately attended to by track veterinarians and triaged on the turf course. Given the extent of the fracture and the nature of the injury, it was unfortunately determined that it was an unrecoverable injury," Santa Anita announced.Ebeko was trailing the entire race, and fell face-first into the turf after his injury. He was trained by Peter Miller, and was ridden Sunday by jockey Joel Rosario. Rosario was examined by Santa Anita's first-aid staff and although he missed race 4, he was cleared to ride the remainder of the afternoon.Santa Anita debuted a new turf course chute on Saturday, but Sunday's third race did not take place on that course, according to track publicist Mike Willman.Ebeko will undergo a necropsy at UC Davis' school of veterinary medicine, as is mandatory for all on-track fatalities."The accident and the necropsy report will be reviewed by a team to learn what, if anything, could have been done to have prevented the accident," Santa Anita said.The track had just marked an opening day record pari-mutuel handle on Saturday, despite fans being barred from attending due to the coronavirus pandemic. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died Monday at the age of 27, stunning Major League Baseball and leading to the postponement of the team's game against the Texas Rangers.Skaggs was with the team in Texas when he was found unresponsive in his hotel room. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they are investigating, but no foul play is suspected at this time.Skaggs was "an important part of the Angels Family," the team said in a statement.
