BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Lending by Chinese banks may drop to 600 billion yuan (88 billion U.S. dollars) in May as the central government winds down its stimulus program and cools the property market to prevent the economy from overheating, the Shanghai Securities News reported Friday.A fall in bank lending in May is expected after the government introduced a raft of measures to curb the skyrocketing property market in April. The measures included a ban on lending for third home purchases and increased scrutiny of developers' financing, the report said.Lu Zhengwei, an economist at Industrial Bank, estimates Chinese banks' May lending will be 450 billion yuan to 650 billion yuan, compared with 774 billion yuan in April."China has asked banks to strictly control lending to industries with overcapacity and to stop lending to new projects not in the 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package. These will be major reasons for a drop off in May lending," he said.China's banks lent 3.37 trillion yuan in the first four months of the year, about 45 percent of the government's full-year 7.5-trillion-yuan lending target. The National Bureau of Statistics is due to release major economic data for May, including new bank lending, mid-June.
KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added. He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. China is providing good services in this respect. ""The same thing could be said about the south. We need to concentrate on developing the south and China stands with us in this respect. It is a fruitful cooperation with great benefits," he said.Jailani, meanwhile, commended the strong ties between Khartoum and Beijing, saying that "this relation is deeply-rooted in history and I think what has been achieved now between the two countries is paving the way for a lasting peace in Sudan."The fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum will be held on May 13-14 in Tianjin, China. The meeting, with the theme of deepening comprehensive cooperation and realizing common development, would give impetus to the China-Arab friendship. The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was established in 2004.

BRASILIA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and the leaders of Brazil, Russia and India met in Brasilia on Thursday to discuss the world economic and financial situation and other important global issues. This was the second time the four leaders met formally for a summit. The first summit of Brazil, Russia, India and China, collectively known under their acronym BRIC, convened in Yekaterinburg, Russia, last year.At the Brasilia summit, leaders of the four countries were to exchange views on major global issues, such as the world economy and financial situation, reform of the international financial system, climate change and cooperation among the four countries, Chinese diplomats said.China hopes the summit participants could discuss global issues in the spirit of mutual benefit, so as to facilitate the recovery of the world economy, safeguard the four nations' common interests and advance their cooperation, Qin Gang, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, said at a regular press briefing on April 1.He said that China always adopted a "positive, pragmatic, open and transparent" attitude toward cooperation with other BRIC nations.Closer cooperation and exchanges among the four nations would be conducive to increasing the influence of emerging and developing countries, and promoting the development of multilateralism, he said.As major emerging markets, the BRIC countries account for 42 percent of the world's population and 15 percent of the world's GDP.
