SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot last week in Barrio Logan.Patrol personnel responding to reports of gunfire in the area of Chicano Park shortly before 10 p.m. Friday found a large gathering of people standing in a parking lot and a motorist beginning to drive away in a silver sedan, according to police.Seeing the arriving officers, the group, including two people in the car, scattered, Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County supervisors Wednesday approved a master plan update for the McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, which includes extending the runway 800 feet.The 4-0 vote also approved environmental reports associated with the upgrade.Board Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar abstained, saying her family's company owns property near the airport.According to a county presentation, the Carlsbad-based airport accommodates commercial, corporate and private flights.However, the airport is not able to accommodate Boeing 737 planes. The runway extension ranges between 370 and 800 feet.By 2030, it will support 4,600 jobs and generate over 0 million in business-related revenue, million in taxes, the report said.The total upgrade would cost 2 million, with the county paying million; while the federal government would take care of the rest, according to the county. Since January, Vector Control has collected multiple mice that have tested positive for the virus in areas of north and east county, including Julian, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Boulevard, 4S Ranch, Warner Springs and Potrero.With each instance, county officials have reminded residents to avoid sweeping or vacuuming rodent droppings, which can push the virus into the air. Instead, residents are advised to use so-called "wet cleaning" methods like a diluted bleach spray, disinfectants or a sponge and a mop to clean up wild rodent matter like urine, feces and saliva. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Narcotics officers raided a Hillcrest smoke shop and arrested a clerk suspected of possessing a third of a pound of the synthetic drug spice and nearly ,000 in cash, authorities said Thursday.The raid Tuesday at Godfather Smoke Shop in the 3500 block of Fifth Avenue resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old Loay Lawrence, who's also suspected of possessing 375 pills of the synthetic drug Kratom.Both spice and Kratom are banned under the city of San Diego's synthetic drug ordinance, which was enacted in June of last year "in response to a high number of synthetic drug related overdoses," San Diego police Narcotics Unit Lt. Matt Novak said.Narcotics detectives began investigating the Godfather Smoke Shop after receiving a tip that spice was being sold there, Novak said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A person died today in a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV near Escondido.The crash happened at 4 p.m. Saturday on Birch Avenue and Bear Valley Parkway in an unincorporated area outside Escondido, the California Highway Patrol said.An Acura MDX SUV and a motorcycle collided, killing one person, the CHP said. It was not immediately known whether the victim was on the motorcycle or in the SUV.The accident forced the closure of northbound Bear Valley at Idaho Avenue.
