SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A suspicious backpack prompted a bomb squad response downtown Tuesday afternoon. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the incident unfolded around 3:30 p.m. just outside the federal building on the 800 block of Front Street. Authorities say a security guard at the building saw a man acting suspiciously before tossing a military backpack into a planter. After using special equipment to examine the bag, the bomb squad found only personal items inside the bag. The FBI said it sent agents to the scene, but that the "matter is being led by Federal Protective Services." 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An autopsy report released Friday by the San Diego County Medical Examiner indicated a young woman who died after being arrested by San Diego Police had PCP, THC, morphine, and meth in her system. The Medical Examiner determined Aleah Jenkins, 24, died of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest while in custody and acute methamphetamine and fentanyl toxicity. Jenkins was arrested during a traffic stop in University City on Nov. 27. Officers determined she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for meth possession and arrested her. They also found a bag of methamphetamine in the car, according to the autopsy report. During the traffic stop, police called paramedics because Jenkins vomited. She said it was due to an upset stomach, and officers said they canceled the ambulance call. RELATED: San Diego woman dies in the hospital after arrestJenkins was taken to SDPD headquarters, where police went to get water for her, the autopsy indicated. When the officers returned, they found Jenkins unresponsive. There was a bag of white powder on the ground near her, and a glass vial and another bag of white powder in her clothing, the autopsy report said. The Medical Examiner’s report indicated the officers administered CPR, and she had a pulse when paramedics arrived to take her to the hospital Jenkins died at UC San Diego Medical Center on Dec. 6. The Medical Examiner’s autopsy summary indicated Jenkins had no injuries which would have contributed to her death. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An executive order signed by President Trump Wednesday may help San Diego's military spouses find work. The executive order is aimed at increasing opportunities for military spouses to obtain federal jobs.The order encourages agencies to increase use of the noncompetitive hiring authority for military spouses.For military spouses, the unemployment rate is 16 percent which is four times higher than the national average for female adults. Among military spouses who do have jobs, 14 percent have part-time jobs and half of those spouses want full-time work.Many spouses of military members choose careers like teaching, nursing or law, but such jobs often have state-specific licenses that make it difficult to move from state to state.“Right now I’m looking at leaving my career because the exams and licensing costs are phenomenal never mind how poorly the education system is run; right from resources to teacher pay,” Sheryl Ogle said in a Facebook comment.According to an impact study conducted by the San Diego Military Advisory Council, there are more than 100,000 active-duty military members in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A water main break Monday forced San Diego firefighters to evacuate Point Loma neighbors due to a potential hillside collapse.The break happened about 2:30 p.m. on Larga Circle near Leland St. The residential area is just west of the Vons shopping center on Midway Drive.According to SDFD, 10 homes were evacuated due to the break. The broken water main is on a slope between homes at the top and bottom of the slope. At least one home had flooding to the garage.City engineers are being called to the scene. 545
