Gavin Newsom ordered thousands more body bags for distribution to morgues in three counties, including San Diego, state health authorities reported a new high for coronavirus-related deaths and cases.California recorded 53,711 new COVID-19 cases and 293 additional deaths on Wednesday. The state's previous high for deaths was set Saturday with 225.On Tuesday, Newsom ordered 5,000 body bags during a surge in deaths over the past week, averaging over 160 per day."This is a deadly disease, a deadly pandemic, and we're in the middle of it right now," Newsom said Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed a car into a wall Sunday morning, critically injuring one passenger.Police say the teen was driving too fast on the 3900 block of Imperial Avenue near the Mt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were in custody this morning on suspicion of committing a home invasion robbery in the Skyline area.The victim and another man were inside a home at 7700 Skyline Drive around 12:30 p.m. Friday when two armed men entered the house, tied up the victim and the other man and stole items from the home and both victims, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The suspects left the home and jumped into a waiting gold car, which lost control a short distance away from the home and became disabled, Heims said.Several people ran from the vehicle and when police arrived on scene, they found two men near the car, both of whom were detained and later arrested, Heims said.San Diego police robbery detectives are investigating. 784

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A grand jury indicted two San Diego men Thursday on suspicion of blowing up ATM’s in Kearny Mesa and Miramar.Chad Engel, 46, and Scott Petri, 47, were charged with five counts including using explosives for the crimes and conspiracy to commit bank robbery.The first robbery happened July 4, 2017, at the California Coast Credit Union branch ATM on Ruffin Rd. The explosives went off but the ATM was not breached.RELATED: Explosives used in ATM robberiesThe second robbery was on August 13, 2017, at the Chevron gas station on Miramar Rd. Investigators said Engel and Petri drilled a hole in the ATM, filled it with gas, and ignited a fuse. The resulting explosion damaged the ATM and allowed the men to steal ,000, said investigators.Surveillance videos of both crimes were released to find the suspects. 833
