SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In an effort to help solve the homeless problem, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a program that will provide million in financing for seven affordable housing projects.The new development will add 503 units."This is a game changer," says Supervisor Ron Roberts, who championed the proposal along with Supervisor Dianne Jacob. "For the people that need this, this will be a godsend."The money comes from the Innovative Housing Trust Fund, which was created in 2017 to help provide gap financing to developments that can add affordable multi-family rental housing.Many of the units from the first seven projects will be earmarked for the homeless, veterans, people with disabilities or mental illness, families and seniors."For a family of 4 earning just over 70,000 dollars, they won't pay more than 1,900 dollars a month," Roberts says. "You can't find enough bedrooms for a family of four at 1,900 dollars in San Diego."The seven projects will be spread out throughout the county with two in the Otay Mesa/San Ysidro area, two in Vista and one each in Poway, San Marcos and the Southcrest neighborhood of San Diego.All of the projects are expected to be completed by December of 2021. 1288

"Though it's not among the most affordable cities, San Diego is this year's best city for recreation as it offers plenty of choices in terms of parks, tourist attractions and public beaches,” said Jill Gonzalez, Consumer Finance Analyst. “Other things that make San Diego a good destination are its food festivals, recreational centers, cuisine and wine tours." Customers are flocking to buy ammunition before a new California gun law goes into effect. It’s called the “1 million round month.” Just a few hours after opening its doors, Poway Weapons and Gear Range sold half of their 1.2 million rounds of ammo. “Today is a direct reflection of the law,” says Danielle Rudolph, Director of Sales at Poway Weapons and Gear Range. “People are trying to stock up and save up now that way they don’t have to worry about it next year.” The new law starting in July says in addition to a gun permit, gun owners will have to pass another background check to buy ammunition. Retailers will then have to log the amount of ammo gun owners purchase in a database. The records will be sent to the Department of Justice. When asked about the store’s large sale, Ron Marcus with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said in part: “The bottom line is regardless of how people try to prepare themselves before the law goes into effect, majority of Californians voted on Prop. 63 that put these laws into effect."Store owners say they will order more ammunition for customers to purchase at a reduced price. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Locals and visitors in San Diego's mountains Friday awoke to a winter wonderland of snowfall.A Thanksgiving storm brought a fresh coating of snowfall to the county's higher elevations, including areas of Julian, Descanso, Palomar Mountain, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna. A winter storm warning will continue through 10 p.m. Friday.San Diego mountains can expect to see about 10 to 18 inches of snow above 5,500', 10News meteorologist Megan Parry reports. Areas between 3,000 and 4,000 feet will see trace amounts to 2 inches of snow, and areas 4,000 and 4,500' can expect about 3 to 8 inches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- If you are experiencing mental fatigue like never before, you are not alone. Many people who are used to forging ahead in times of crisis, like this coronavirus pandemic, say the feeling is unfamiliar. Emily Chandler of Vista says she never could have imagined her kids would still be distance learning in the fall. "This has been going on so long, and I'm just exhausted," Chandler says. Her three sons are in three different schools and her oldest, Timmy, has autism. Helping them all with school means studying up on things herself. Marriage and family therapist Serene Carruthers, of Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital, says what Chandler is feeling is tied to the seemingly endless nature of the pandemic."It really is because our body is built to respond to stressful events typically that last for a duration of a short period of time," says Carruthers. "Some experts call it surge capacity. Like a battery our adaptive system can provide us with the mental, physical and emotional power to survive a short-term emergency. Then it needs to be recharged which is easier said than done during a pandemic because for many people, their self-care rituals have been upended or canceled.""It is a very lonely time and I'm not getting that energy, that recharge," says Chandler. Carruthers says not to underestimate the power of play, which is free and can be done anywhere. She also recommends shifting expectations, maintaining connections with loved ones, keeping a gratitude journal about the good in your life, and exercising even if it's just walking in your home. Chandler says the reopening of her gym helped her feel like herself again, and she and Carruthers both say it's all right to ask for help, which Chandler says she's glad she did."I got on an anti-anxiety medication and I'm not embarrassed about that. It's really, really helped me," Chandler says.What has also helped is her boys have been troopers, making it clear that sometimes the biggest challenge can also bring the greatest joy. 2031
