(KGTV) - The U.S. Navy said it has confirmed the death of the pilot in the crash of a fighter jet in the California desert. The single-seat F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed Wednesday morning in a canyon in Death Valley National Park where military aircraft conduct low-level training in an area known as Star Wars Canyon. Seven French tourists on the ground were treated for minor cuts and burns they suffered when they were hit by shrapnel. The Navy says the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The aircraft belonged to Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-151 based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California's Central Valley. The Navy said in a statement Thursday that the pilot's identity will be withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin in accordance with Defense Department policy. 811

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of insulting Iran's supreme leader and posting private information online.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a statement, reading in part that White would be reunited with his family."He is now on his way back to the United States, where we look forward to reuniting him with his family. I commend U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook for negotiating Mr. White’s release with the Iranians. According to family spokesperson Jonathan Franks, White went to Iran to see a woman described as his girlfriend and he had booked a July 27, 2019, flight back home to San Diego on United Arab Emirates.White's mom filed a missing person report with the State Department after he didn't board the flight.White worked as a cook in the U.S. Navy and left the service about a decade ago. (KGTV) — The DUI suspected accused in a violent chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 in Temecula that killed one woman has been charged with second-degree murder.Javier Calder, of Auburn, Washington, was charged with one count of second-degree murder and driving under the influence of a drug with an enhancement of causing great bodily injury, according to ABC-affiliate KABC.If convicted, Calder could face life in prison.Tuesday's crash occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on southbound I-15 near Rancho California Rd. Caldera was speeding in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at more than 100 mph when he slammed into the back of a Nissan Altima, according to CHP.The driver of the Altima, 44-year-old Janet Genao of Murrieta, died at the scene, KABC reported.Another vehicle was also struck and sent over the side of the freeway and into a parking structure at Temecula City Hall, the station adds. A 60,000-square-foot museum that will include a first-of-its-kind tribute to the 1980 U.S. Olympic team is scheduled to open July 30 in Colorado Springs after a three-year construction project.
