As a child, it's part of the wonder and magic of Santa.Even as we grow up, many people keep the tradition alive, simply because a Christmas stocking touches the child in all of us.And it's from that attachment, that an act of kindness was born.As a teenager, Jane Wesley Brooks began filling Christmas stockings for the homeless, and delivering them to those on the streets each Christmas Eve.Over 40 years, she has passed out thousands of stockings filled with caps, mittens, socks, shampoos, magazines, and even playing cards. Any small item that is new, clean and useful for those without a home.We surprised Jane with 10News Leadership Award.She accepts any appropriate new item at her law office all year long. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than a hundred family and friends gathered for a memorial service Friday morning at St. Therese Catholic Church in Del Cerro, to remember Julia Jacobson.The retired U.S. Army Captain disappeared over Labor Day weekend and is believed to have been murdered, the priest talking of the "sting of death" and "death so sinful."Julia's car was discovered abandoned near her home in University Heights but there's been no sign of her or her dog, Boogie, despite many searches - which are ongoing.RELATED: Ex-husband of missing Army veteran arrested on suspicion of murderJulia was divorced. It wasn't a friendly parting and the ex-husband, Dalen Ware, was arrested in Phoenix last month; charged with her murder and currently awaiting trial.Friday, though, a tearful farewell for a lost friend.Jamie Mann described her as a battle buddy during the Iraq war."There isn't a day goes by I don't think of that girl and how she made me a better leader; just a better woman; and she loved everybody, touched so many people hearts, and she'll never be forgotten," Mann said.RELATED: Scholarship set up in memory of missing Army veteran Julia JacobsonJulia's brother, Jon, said one of his biggest honors was to pin Julia's lieutenant's bars on her."I was very proud of her; her service in Iraq, Serbia a little while. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Tuesday, San Diego beach parking lots, piers, and boardwalks reopened following their closures amid the pandemic. The reopening came in time for the heat wave.10News witnessed beachgoers from Pacific Beach to South Mission Beach who took advantage of the lifted restrictions.A heat advisory was in effect until 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Coastal highs were in the 80s and 90s."It was a lot of fun since we can’t get out that much," said Ashyton Malan who visited the beach on Tuesday with his family. Mother Jennifer Malan added, "People are far apart and not a lot of masks but there was nobody encroaching on anybody’s space so it was nice."The City reports that visitors are still required to practice social distancing with anyone outside of their household and they cannot congregate or participate in active sporting activities on the beaches. 871

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 50 free health classes could come to community centers and libraries across San Diego. It would be part of a sponsorship deal the city is considering with Sharp HealthCare, in which Sharp would pay the city 0,000 a year for the right to market as the city's "Health and Wellness Partner."Sharp currently offers classes, many of them free, but most are at Sharp facilities.This arrangement, going before a city committee Wednesday, and ultimately before the City Council, would call for six free classes a year in each of the nine council districts, from Otay Mesa to Rancho Bernardo. Dr. Eunice Sanchez-Mata, of Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, said patients usually see her once or twice a year."We're here educating them as best as we can, but really that education should be year long," she said. The classes would impart key information on ways to prevent heart disease, quit smoking, live with diabetes, and manage stress. Topics would be geared to different areas of the city. . The three-year deal would be the city's first of its kind. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Months after her husband passed away, a San Diego woman is still waiting for answers from the hospital that cared for him.Trish Zdravecky says her husband Peter stayed at Select Specialty Hospital in Hillcrest for over three months due to kidney and diabetes complications. During that time, more than ,000 worth of his jewelry went missing. "I would like someone to return the stuff. I don't need the money. I'm good. But it would be nice to have the items that were on my husband when he went into the hospital," said Trish.Among the items missing: an ,000 Rolex, gold necklace, gold bracelet, and his UC San Diego class ring. Trish says each time she calls the hospital, she's told there's no update and that a claim has been filed."My children deserve whatever their father had for them, and that is the most important thing."She says she's more concerned about the sentimental value of the items; the gold necklace cross was a gift from Peter's late mother.In a statement to 10News, a hospital representative said: 1052
