The US economy added 155,000 jobs in November, the Labor Department reported Friday. That's fewer than expected, but the unemployment rate remained steady at 3.7%.October's jobs numbers were also revised down slightly, to put the monthly average over the past year at about 204,000 jobs, and the average over the last quarter at 170,000.The report is a sign of a slowing but still strong labor market — and further support for the idea that the Federal Reserve may hold off hiking interest rates over the next year as quickly or as much as initially planned. That's reassuring to investors who had been worried that the Fed would move too fast to cool off an already decelerating economy."My reaction is a sigh of relief," said Leo Grohowski, chief Investment Officer at BNY Mellon Wealth Management. "I think a mild miss is more than acceptable in order to help the Fed understand that multiple rate increases may not be warranted for 2019."Paychecks grew by 3.1% over the last year, a relatively robust number that is in line with expectations as employers have had to fight to attract workers in recent months. The percentage of people participating in the labor force remained the same and the median number of weeks people remained unemployed dropped from 9.4 to 8.9 weeks in November, suggesting that people are getting jobs more quickly after losing them. However, the number of people "marginally attached" to the labor force — those who had looked for a job in the past year but stopped in the past month because they couldn't find one — has risen by nearly 200,000 over the past year. The percentage of people working part time who would rather work full time also rose slightly.Despite high demand for workers in some sectors, that may show that people who want jobs increasingly aren't in the places where employers need them — and that the economy still has room to expand before running out of workers entirely. The strongest job growth came in health care, transportation and warehousing, and manufacturing, which added another 27,000 jobs for 288,000 total growth over the past year. Tariffs and fears of a larger trade war may not be having a huge positive impact, but they're definitely not choking the sector either.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling nearly half a million Kidde smoke detectors, saying they could fail to work in the event of a fire.According to the CPSC, anyone with a Kidde smoke alarm should remove their alarm from the ceiling or wall and look for a yellow cap on the inside of the alarm (see photo above). Those who find a yellow cap should contact Kidde for a replacement, and should not try and remove the yellow cap. Those who do not find a yellow cap in their smoke alarm can continue using the device normally. The alarms were sold at Menards, The Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon and Kidde's website between September 2016 and this January. The following models are covered in the recall:PI9010 (DC/battery powered)Date code: 2016 Sep. 10 through 2017 Oct. 13PI2010 (AC/hardwired)Date code: 2016 Sep. 10 through 2017 Oct. 13If you are covered by the recall, contact Kidde toll-free at 833-551-7739 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. You can also visit online at www.kidde.com and click on “Product Safety Recall” for more information. 1168

The search for a 12-year-old thought to be trapped in a Mexico City elementary school ended Thursday with the news that all students have been accounted for.But rescuers will continue their work, as signs suggest that someone may still be alive in the rubble, Angel Enrique Sarmiento, Mexico's sub-secretary of Navy, said Thursday. For days, Colegio Enrique Rebsamen was the site of a massive search and rescue operation offering a glimmer of hope in the chaotic aftermath of Tuesday's magnitude 7.1 quake. Reports of the missing 12-year-old riveted people across the country, who watched the rescue efforts unfold live on television. 656

The weekend didn't make things any easier for students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School: Parents had to lay teen children to rest; the family who had taken in shooter Nikolas Cruz said they didn't know they were living with a "monster;" and a tweet from President Donald Trump seemed to infuriate an already-angry student body. The students promised action in the wake of the massacre that left 17 of their classmates and teachers dead. They're headed to Tallahassee, Florida, to speak to legislators about school safety and gun control this week, and they have school walkouts and a march scheduled in the coming months.Meanwhile, Anthony Borges, 15, continued his recovery. He's one of four patients who remain hospitalized after Wednesday's massacre in Parkland, Florida. He was shot five times, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.  868
