PYONGYANG, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of senior Chinese military officers watched the "Arirang" performance here Saturday night as part of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the entry of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) into the Korean War front.The delegation, led by Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, is on a four-day visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). They were joined at the show by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK.Before the show, Guo met Kim and a number of other DPRK leaders, including Choe Yong Rim, premier of the cabinet, and Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission.Guo hailed the DPRK's attention to its relations with China. He said the visit of the delegation was to implement the important consensus reached between Chinese President Hu Jintao and the DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il.China would work with the DPRK side to make an active contribution to the continuous promotion of the Sino-DPRK friendship, Guo said.Kim Yong Nam warmly welcomed the visit of the Chinese delegation.The DPRK cherished its friendship with China. To consolidate and develop the relations was the firm will of the DPRK, Kim said.The "Arirang", a mass gymnastic and artistic show with some 100,000 performers, showcased the achievements made by the DPRK people in socialist construction, and their love of the fatherland, aspiration for reunification and peace.The CPV entered the DPRK on Oct. 25, 1950, about four months after the Korean War broke out.In an article marking the anniversary, the DPRK's official KCNA news agency said Thursday that the CPV not only displayed a spirit of self-sacrifice and heroism but also promoted friendship.

DALIAN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday called on the young in Russia and China to pass on the friendship forged during World War II.Medvedev made the call in a meeting Sunday morning with more than 20 veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), part of WWII.The Russian leader, who arrived in the northeast China's port city of Dalian Sunday morning, first laid flowers at a monument commemorating Soviet Union war martyrs.In the following meeting with Chinese and Russian veterans, Medvedev said Russians and Chinese forged profound friendship in their joint fight against the Nazis, and such friendship constituted the solid foundation for the relationship between the two countries.The Russian President thanked Russian and Chinese veterans for their contributions to peace.He also thanked China for renovating the memorial, which was one of more than 70 memorials commemorating Soviet Union war martyrs throughout China. All those memorials had been refurbished to mark the 65th anniversary of the victory of WWII.Dalian was the first stop of Medvedev's three-day visit to China. This was also Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.Later Sunday, Medvedev flew to Beijing to continue his state visit to China.During his stay in Beijing, Medvedev will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and call on other Chinese leaders, including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.Medvedev will also travel to east China's metropolis of Shanghai, where, on the next day, he will meet with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and attend events marking the Russia Day at the ongoing World Expo, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.

BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 300 Chinese and Ukrainian officials, business executives and traders gathered at a trade forum Friday to seek bilateral business opportunities. BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) - China's gross domestic product (GDP) will grow about 9 percent next year, but the economy will be challenged by rising labor costs, liquidity problems and difficulty in sustaining rapid growth in the long run, a senior researcher at the country's top think-tank said Saturday.Liu Shijin, deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, or China's Cabinet, spoke at the OTO Fortune Forum held by the Bank of Communications.As for the year 2010, Liu predicted an annual 10-percent GDP growth due to the economic slowdown in China during the second half of the year.He said China's exports and investments would be much better in 2011 than this year, but the growth rate of consumption would pull back slightly from this year's boom, making 9 percent growth "very likely".To keep its economy on track for sustained growth, however, China still faces three major challenges in the long term, according to Liu's research."The first challenge comes from the rapid rise of labor costs in the country," Liu said, warning: "The competitiveness of Chinese companies will be threatened by rising labor costs unless they find a new source of growth, such as innovation."The second challenge is from liquidity as China's currency, the renminbi, and other non-U.S. dollar currencies are under forced appreciation pressure following the Federal Reserve's considering a new round of quantitative easing of the monetary policy, he said.The greenback, which serves as the world's reserve currency, tumbled against most major currencies this week on expected easing move by the Federal Reserve to pump more money into the U.S. economy next month.Meanwhile, China's economic stimulus package also injected excessive liquidity into the market, pushing up prices of commodities, equities and other land-related assets or resources, he added.The third major challenge concerns whether China can maintain its quick economic expansion in the future, he said.According to Liu's forecast, in the next three to five years China's GDP growth will slow to a moderate speed of around 7 percent from its current 10 percent."Actually, we don't have to be too worried about an economy with moderate expansion," he said, "because the current economic growth is too high for China."
