SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are looking for the thief who committed a brazen robbery at a South Park metaphysical shop, stealing a ,000 crystal ball in broad daylight in front of store staff and other customers.The theft occurred Monday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. at Crystal Blue Vibrations, San Diego Police said. "This was a lot worse than we thought," co-owner Andrew Lucas told 10News. "That's when we went to the video tape and it showed everything."The thief could be seen casually walking through the store, chatting with an employee behind the counter. He then walked over to the front display, which included several large crystal spheres. He reached in to grab an expensive one, but knocked over a shelf, leaving shattered glass all over and drawing the attention of the employee. However, it appears the employee did not realize the man was attempting to steal the item. While the employee was focused on cleaning up the mess, the the thief can be seen grabbing the crystal ball, placing it on the ground, dribbling it like a soccer ball to the front door, then bending over to pick it up and walk out. "I thought I'd seen it all," Lucas said. "Yeah, it's pretty brazen. It's heartbreaking."Lucas says he plans to limit how much access customers have to certain items in the future. "And more security, but I guess that's what the world is coming to."A police report has been filed. Lucas hopes someone may recognize the thief from the surveillance video and will come forward to identify him. 1513

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect who drove into a woman using a motorized chair in Central San Diego.On Dec. 9, just before 4 a.m., San Diego Police say 62-year-old Gloria Williams was riding her motorized mobility device in the left lane of the 100 block of Euclid Avenue, heading northbound. It's not clear why Williams was traveling in the roadway in the Lincoln Park area.The driver of a dark-colored SUV collided into the back of Williams and continued to drive northbound, according to police. Williams died at the scene.Police said they were able to retrieve some details of the suspect's vehicle using optical sensors from nearby Smart Street Lights. The street lights also captured the suspect stopping at a nearby gas station.Gas station surveillance footage showed the suspect, a black man wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers hooded sweatshirt and checkered pants, enter the gas station using a cane.Police are now asking the public for help to identify the suspect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents at a charter school in Chollas View are sounding the alarm after learning the fate of their founder and current director is now uncertain.This past spring, Patricio Ramirez graduated from Gompers Preparatory Academy with a full scholarship to San Diego State University."My son is first generation. This is a dream come true," said his mother, Theressah Rodirugez.But Theressah and her husband Victor, who have another son in 9th grade, are suddenly worried for his future."I am heartbroken," said Victor Ramirez.He's heartbroken after learning San Diego Unified plans to end a unique agreement to loan out staff to the school, which began when the school was founded in 2004."It was one of the lowest performing schools in the district. Very violent campus and gang infected," said school alum and education advocate Ellen Nash.Nash says when the school made the switch to a charter school, the district agreed to loan out a handful of staff, including then principal Vincent Riveroll, along with college counselors and support staff."He changed the culture to a college-going campus," said Nash.Nash says Riveroll set high educational standards, recruited and trained teachers, and implemented tutoring, after-school and summer school programs.This past spring, nearly 100% of the school's senior class was college bound."In an underserved community, they have a star in that community," said Nash.She worries it will turn into a fallen star without the school district's longstanding support, and the presence of Riveroll.In a memo released by the school district, officials point out there is more legal liability in loaning out staff, as the district has ended these agreements district-wide, thus turning the schools into traditional charter schools.School district officials points out the school already reimburses the them for the staff members' salaries. They're trying to confirm how much of the benefits - including retirement benefits - are also reimbursed by the school.The school district is set to end the on-loan program in July 2021. 2086

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a homeless man a Mission Valley father says tried dragging his daughter into bushes before she was able to escape.Chris Gilbert says his 11-year-old daughter went to check the mail Saturday around 2 p.m. on the 5900 block of Caminito Deporte when the incident happened.After walking across the street to check the mail, Gilbert says his daughter felt hands on her shoulders.RELATED: San Diego Homelessness Czar to go on leave to open Mormon temple"She thought it was me, sneaking up playing a game,” Gilbert said.Then, Gilbert says, the man grabbed the 11-year-old by the neck and started dragging her toward some bushes.“She told me he put his hands on her shoulders from behind and was holding her, turned around and kicked him in the shin, got loose and ran into the house and found me upstairs.”That’s when Gilbert ran downstairs to confront the homeless man, hitting him in the shoulder as a warning.RELATED: Oceanside residents demand solution to homelessness issue“I said, ‘you need to get out of here,’ then he started hitting me.”Gilbert’s daughter describes the man as six foot, two inches tall, between the ages of 40 to 45 with thick glasses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person is dead after a shooting in the Mountain View area Wednesday.San Diego Police responded to reports of a shooting just before 3 p.m. in the 3500 block of Florence Lane. Officers arrived to find a victim in an alley suffering from a gunshot wound, according to City News Service.The victim, described only as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.The suspected shooter was described as a man who appeared in his 30s, wearing shots and a black tank top. He seen fleeing the area with another person in a silver Dodge Ram pickup or similar truck, CNS reported.SDPD is investigating.
