The visit comes as the President backed off threats to close the US-Mexico border in the near future, but threatened to slap tariffs on automobiles made in Mexico. Tensions at the border reached a boiling point in November of 2018, when Trump said it was a "good time for a government shutdown if he didn't receive funding for the border wall.
