SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A simple move across the city could bring San Diegans more help when it comes to finding a job.Monday, the San Diego Workforce Partnership relocated from its longtime office in City Heights to a new headquarters in Kearny Mesa. The partnership expects to save 0,000 in rent this year and million over the next fifteen years."That's more staffing, more services for job seekers, and more outreach to employers," said Peter Callstrom, the Workforce Partnership's CEO. "To save money is the big deal because we want to keep costs low and fund programs."San Diego Unified bought the partnership's old office, getting them out of a long term, expensive lease. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A sea of purple covered Mission Bay Park as thousands showed up to ride, run and walk for epilepsy awareness.The event is Sharon's Ride, Run, Walk.  Sharon’s Ride was started by Dr. William Rosenfeld honor Dr. Rosenfeld’s sister, Sharon,  who was killed in a bicycle accident while bicycling cross country. She was also a nurse and teacher who cared deeply about epilepsy. Dr. Rosenfeld is the chairman of the event nationwide.   Participants could choose from a 15-mile bike ride or a 5k run or walk around Mission Bay.   The money raised benefits the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County.   678

Moderators and local journalists are discussing the serious threat fake news and deliberate disinformation poses on the country's democracy."Journalism is called the fourth estate of American democracy, without a free press and a believed and trusted press our democracy simply is not going to survive," said conference moderator and political science professor, Dr. Carl Luna.Public trust of the media has hit historic lows in recent years and panelists discussed ways organizations can earn back the public's trust. The San Diego Public Library system offers the public media literacy courses, offering tools to recognize the difference between real news and "fake" news.The Society of Professional Journalists also offers online tools for public use. 958

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shopping trip in City Heights ended with a flurry of anti-gay slurs and a road rage assault.On Tuesday afternoon, Marco Aguirre spent an hour shopping, before heading back to his truck, parked in the 3700 block on University Avenue."I back out and lightly bump the car behind me," said Aguirre, 49.Aguirre says he saw two men emerge from an older-model, red sedan. Aguirre apologized, offering to show his insurance, but the men were agitated."The driver came on my side and the passenger came on the other side. Both of them were screaming," said Aguirre.With his cellphone, Aguirre, who is openly gay, capturing the profanities, including a string of anti-gay slurs. Aguirre was frozen. "I feel terrible. Panicked," said Aguirre.He says the slurs continued for about 15 minutes, before he decided to get out of the car to assess the damage."I see no damage to my truck and no damage to their vehicle," said Aguirre. Aguirre says when he stepped onto the sidewalk, he was attacked."One of the guys grabbed my phone and smashed it into the sidewalk. The same guy punched me in the face, under my left eye," said Aguirre. Aguirre says the two men got in the car and took off, leaving him with swelling under his left eye. The incident also left him determined to find the two men."It's not right. I need to take a stand. This is my neighborhood, and I don't want to feel threatened in my own neighborhood," said Aguirre.Aguirre says he actually recorded the entire episode up until the phone was damaged, but only a minute or so ended up in the cloud.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000. 1654

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego psychiatrist no longer has a license after authorities say he was intoxicated while practicing.According to the Medical Board of California, Marco Antonio Chavez’s license was suspended following an investigation.The investigation began after authorities say a patient reported that Chavez sent him a box of medication in 2017 that contained an empty vodka bottle.During one of several office visits, an investigator said Chavez appeared to be intoxicated.Documents show that Chavez told the investigator that his mother gave him a “Mexican home remedy to stop his drinking” which consisted of vodka and cloves. At a hearing, Chaves said he had two of the drinks that morning.During the visit, the investigator told Chavez he believed he was “so intoxicated that he could not practice medicine” and told two patients in the waiting room to go home.A test conducted by a San Diego Police officer shows that Chavez had a blood alcohol level of .216. Authorities say Chavez’s license was suspended on May 7. 1044
