LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nearly 200 people turned out for a vigil in Lakeside honoring two teenagers killed in a car accident last weekend. Isaac Culkin and Justin Kyte were killed on Saturday, Jan. 11 when the car they were riding in crashed into a tree. Two others in the car suffered moderate injuries, but survived. Those closest to the boys gathered at the scene of the crash for a candlelight vigil, a moment of silence and prayer. The teens' closest friends remembered them as hardworking, funny boys who loved to have fun offroading the desert. CHP says Kyte was behind the wheel when he lost control of the car and hit a tree on Willow Road. Culkin was in the passenger seat. CHP says speed was a factor, but it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. Services for Culkin are scheduled Thursday, January 23rd. Information on Kyte's services have not been made public. A GoFundMe is set up for one of the teens. If you'd like to donate, click here. 972

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — The officer at the center of a controversial arrest filmed in La Mesa is no longer employed with the department, according to the city.City manager Greg Humora said in a release on Friday that former LMPD officer Matt Dages is "not employed by the City of La Mesa in any capacity."The city could not comment on whether Dages resigned or was terminated. In June, video surfaced showing the May 27 altercation that had already started between Dages and 23-year-old Amaurie Johnson at Grossmont Trolley Station. In the video, Dages is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position on a bench and eventually handcuffing and arresting him. Johnson was told he was being arrested for assaulting an officer.RELATED:Man seen in controversial arrest video files lawsuit against City of La MesaVIDEO: Incident between La Mesa officer, man at trolley station surfacesLa Mesa demonstration highlights several anti-police brutality ralliesFollowing the release of bodycam footage of the arrest, La Mesa Police Department said it had dropped charges against Johnson. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A wellness center in La Mesa is accused of misleading patients by illegally marketing a breast cancer screening device, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).This week, the FDA issued a formal warning to Total Thermal Imaging Inc. and its president and co-owner, Linda Hayes, for illegally marketing and distributing an unapproved thermography device as a sole screening device for breast cancer and other diseases, according to a press release.Thermography is heat-sensitive imaging depicted in variations of color.10News spoke to San Diego's Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness organization, which says thermography alone is not enough. “It can be used in addition to a mammogram or other screening tool that has been shown effective but there hasn't been any scientific evidence for thermography right now being a standalone tool,” says Lizzie Wittig, Director of Mission Initiatives and Public Policy. The FDA is demanding a response within 15 working days.No one at the clinic answered the door. 10News called and sent messages, and got this text reply: "Total Thermal Imaging Inc. is reviewing the warning letter from the FDA and developing a response. We will work with the agency to ensure our products comply with acceptable regulations." This isn't the first time that a clinic has gotten a warning letter about thermography. Five other clinics around the country have gotten in trouble with the FDA in recent years. 1478

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) – Leslie Furcron, the woman who was shot in the face with a bean bag round during a May 30 protest outside of La Mesa police headquarters, addressed the media Wednesday. The 59-year-old Furcron and her attorney, Dante Pride, are slated to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. in La Mesa."I'm a law-abiding citizen," said Furcron in her brief statement to reporters. "I never came out here that night [La Mesa protests] for this to be a part of my story."Furcron was released from the hospital on Tuesday after having been placed in a medically induced coma with a breathing tube. She was initially hospitalized after a La Mesa officer fired a bean bag round into a crowd of protesters. Furcron was struck in the forehead. Her attorney described the bean bag as a canvas sack filled with buckshot, or lead pellets. It's unclear at what range Furcron was struck but her attorney said,"she was too close for them to use that round if it sticks in your forehead."Furcron was among the thousands of people in front of the police department, where a demonstration against police violence started peacefully later turned to chaos and officers began to deploy tear gas and bean bag rounds.LMPD Chief Walt Vaquez said last week that the incident was under investigation and the officer involved had been identified. Vasquez issued the following statement Wednesday:"I am sincerely thankful that Ms. Furcron has been released from the hospital and is able to now heal at home with her family. I pray that she has a speedy and full recovery. I can assure Ms. Furcron, her family, and the public that this unfortunate incident will be fully investigated, to include an in-depth look at our crowd control practices. The men and women of the La Mesa Police Department work tirelessly to provide quality and professional police services for all members of our community. Our hope is that we will all come together to heal the wounds, nurture a culture of open communication, and make the City of La Mesa a better and safer place to live."Pride told 10News that he believes a third party should be investigating the case and the officer who fired the bean bag should face criminal charges if appropriate."There should never be a point in time where an officer should shoot a metal projectile bean bag from an elevated position down on a crowd. That is dangerous and it can kill people and it almost killed Ms. Furcron," Pride said. 2439

It’s the raw emotions."Paterson was part of a three-person team that went to the Ferguson Fire on July 16.  They spent 16 days at the fire. 878
