South Carolina comes firstThe South Carolina primary on Saturday is one of the upmost importance to Biden. His fledgling campaign struggled in the Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire Primaries. While he managed to finish second in Nevada, he only claimed nine of the 36 delegates up for grabs. But South Carolina could be where Biden either regains his momentum, or where his campaign dies. South Carolina is the largest state so far to have a nominating race (56 delegates). It is also a state where Biden still holds a lead over Sanders and the field, although Biden now holds a more narrow lead in the polls.A NBC News poll shows Biden leading Sanders 27-23, while a CBS News poll has Biden up 28-23. While Biden will likely not catch Sanders on Saturday, it could give him much-needed momentum going into the most important day of the race. Then comes Super TuesdayNext week marks the biggest night on the calendar. As voters in 14 states (and American Samoa) go to the polls next Tuesday, 1,334 delegates will be at stake. Among the top prizes for next week’s race will be California (415 delegates) and Texas (228 delegates). A KGTV poll had Sanders leading the state with 25%, with Bloomberg at 21% and Biden at 15%. In Texas, a University of Houston Poll had Sanders and Biden tied with 20% of the vote. Bloomberg flat in first debateBloomberg participated in his first debate of the cycle, and his own campaign staff agreed the candidate had a slow start in the debate. The early minutes of the debate featured attacks from other candidates on his handling of “Stop and Frisk” as well as sexual harassment claims. Warren in particular took Bloomberg to task for not allowing employees bound by non-disclosure agreements to speak out. Last Friday, Bloomberg announced he would allow several women to exit from their NDAs if requested. It is hard to gauge how much last week’s debate will impact his numbers, and the fact he’ll have another debate before Super Tuesday gives him an opportunity to negate some of the damage. Eyes on SandersWith Sanders now clearly the frontrunner, Democrats may shift their focus and attacks on Sanders. They could have some fodder, too. On Sunday, Sanders said on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that "it's unfair to simply say everything is bad" about former Cuban President Fidel Castro’s reign over Cuba.Those comments drew some criticism from one of Biden’s advisers.There is also the issue of electability, one that has become more of a focus as Sanders climbs the poll while maintaining a liberal stance on the issues. But a crowdfunding app called Givling has pulled together hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Their ultimate goal? To be able to pay off a student loan every single day. While they aren't quite there yet, Givling has grown significantly over the past year, and they've given out more than .5 million in loan and mortgage help to people across the country. One person Givling has helped is Indiana University graduate Erin Smith, who says one big win on the app enabled her to put a down payment on a home for her and her little girl. "I first heard about Givling on the news, when one of the first loan payoffs was a guy in Indy a couple of years ago," Smith said. That Hoosier winner she is referring to is Jordan Shelton. He won ,407 in July 2017 to pay off his student loans. Shelton was just the second person to have his loans paid off by the crowdfunding app, which has now funded more than 35 loans and paid out thousands of dollars in trivia and random prizes."I downloaded it and began playing, participating at that time," Smith said. "My main goal was to get into the funding spot someday. I have a decent amount of student loan debt, that seems a bit overwhelming."And that's still a goal for Smith, but while she works her way up the queue toward the winner's circle, playing Givling proved to be more than just a chance at student loan relief — it helped her start her new life with her 3-year-old daughter. Investigators in Utah have found remains they believe are those of a missing 5-year-old girl after the suspect provided a map of an area that authorities searched, a police chief said Wednesday afternoon.Alex Whipple, the uncle of the girl, was formally charged with aggravated murder and other charges. Investigators had held out hope of finding Elizabeth Shelley alive, police said."We certainly wanted to bring Lizzie home," Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said.The child's mother thanked those who helped in the search. "Lizzie was such a caring and giving little girl. We hope that we can look to her as an example of how to live," she said in a statement.Whipple's attorney said his client gave information to authorities."I met with Mr. Whipple this morning and we went over the case. He felt it would be appropriate to disclose the location of the body," attorney Shannon Demler said. "He told me, and I told authorities and took them there about 1 p.m. today."Demler indicated the location was very close to Elizabeth's home.Whipple, 21, who has been the main suspect in the girl's disappearance, also was charged with a count of child kidnapping, two counts of obstruction of justice and a count of desecration of a body, said Jensen. "We don't have a motive at this point," the chief told reporters.Jensen said that a deal was reached with the Cache County Attorney's Office to take the death penalty off the table, in exchange for information that would lead to the girl's body.Whipple had been drinking and playing video games with Elizabeth's mother and her live-in boyfriend the night before the girl was reported missing, according to court documents filed in Cache County.The suspect, located by police hours after Elizabeth vanished, gave investigators conflicting versions of his whereabouts the previous night, the documents said. At one point, he left a police interview room and "began licking his hands" and trying to wipe them clean.Whipple eventually admitted being at Elizabeth's home and told police he went on a walk to "enjoy the scenery" after his sister and boyfriend went to their room, according to the documents. Again, investigators discovered inconsistencies in his time line.During the interview with police, the documents said, the suspect referred to the "evil" in the world and his "struggles as a child and how his family has treated him horribly throughout his life."Whipple told police that alcohol makes him "black out" and that "he sometimes does 'criminal things' when he blacks out," the documents said. There were dark stains consistent with blood on his pants and cuts on his hands.Investigators searching for the girl later discovered a broken, blood-stained knife that was missing from her mother's kitchen and a PVC pipe with a partial, bloodied palm print, according to the documents.Not far away, police found the teal skirt with white lace that Elizabeth had been wearing buried beneath dirt and bark. The skirt was stained with blood. A small concrete block nearby also was stained with blood.The blood on the suspect's clothing, his watch and the knife was matched to Elizabeth during a DNA test, the documents said. The palm print on pipe was matched to the suspect.Elizabeth was last seen at her home by her mother on Saturday at 2 a.m., according to Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge. Shelley's family also last saw Whipple, who had come to the family's home for a visit on Friday night, around that time.Whipple, who has since been arrested, was the main suspect in the child's disappearance. The man who called himself Terry Garcia asked for money -- lots of it -- from the woman identified as FK in federal court documents. Over 10 months, she sent him a total of 0,000 that she borrowed from friends, her ex-husband and other relatives to make her love interest happy.But in reality, Garcia did not exist. It was all an international online scam ran by two Nigerian men in the Los Angeles area with the help of associates in their home country and other nations, federal officials say.And Thursday, US prosecutors charged 80 people -- mostly Nigerians -- in the widespread conspiracy that defrauded at least million from businesses and vulnerable elderly women.Of those, 17 people have been arrested in the US so far and federal investigators are trying to track down the rest in Nigeria and other nations."We believe this is one of the largest cases of its kind in US history," US Attorney Nick Hanna said.A plan to smuggle diamondsThe whirlwind online romance between FK and Garcia was all conducted on a Yahoo email address with no phone calls. Garcia told FK he wasn't allowed to use a phone in Syria, according to federal authorities.Demands for money started after he told her he'd found a bag of diamonds in Syria and needed her help to smuggle it out of the war-torn nation. He said he was injured and could not do it himself -- and introduced her to associates he said would help facilitate the transfer, court documents allege. One said he was a Red Cross diplomat who could get the diamonds shipped to FK, court documents show.Shortly after, another man who claimed to work for a shipping company asked FK for money to ensure the package was not inspected at customs, the complaint alleges. Requests for additional money kept coming, with the fraudsters citing different reasons each time on why the package was stuck at customs."FK estimates that she made 35 to 40 payments over the 10 months that she had a relationship with Garcia. During that time, the fraudster(s) emailed her as many as 10 to 15 times each day, and Garcia was asking her to make the payments, so she kept paying to accounts in Turkey, the UK and the US," the federal criminal complaint says.The loss of money has left FK angry and depressed, authorities said.
