President Donald Trump said he will pressure governors to reopen schools this fall, claiming that governors could make “political statements” by refusing to reopen schools.Trump’s declaration comes a day after Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, a staunch ally of the president, said he would mandate schools to reopen in his state this fall.Trump’s comments on Tuesday came during a roundtable with education and health officials at the White House."We hope that most schools are going to be open,” Trump said. “We don't want people to make political statements or do it for political reasons. They think it's going to be good for them politically so they keep the schools closed. No way. So we're very much going to put pressure on governors and everyone else to open the schools, to get them open and it's very important.”In Florida’s case, an exemption will be made for some students due to the spread of the coronavirus."Although it is anticipated that most students will return to full-time brick and mortar schools, some parents will continue their child's education through innovative learning environments, often due to the medical vulnerability of the child or another family member who resides in the same household," the order stated. In late June, the American Academy of Pediatrics said that schools should plan to fully reopen in the fall, but stated some exceptions should be granted for students who are high risk. While not saying that schools should require masks to be worn, the AAP recommended that mask-wearing be encouraged at schools, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible. In May, the CDC issued guidelines for schools to follow during the pandemic. The guidance calls for schools to monitor community spread of the coronavirus. In areas without community spread, schools are to monitor for absenteeism, continue with intense cleaning protocol, and require sick students and staff to stay home.In case of confirmed cases at schools in areas without community spread, the CDC recommends that schools assess the risk and prepare to close for 2-5 day periods if need be.But in areas with significant community spread, schools are encouraged to undergo extensive social distancing measures, including extended closures. 2277

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - A teenager is using chalk art to try and lift the spirits of her neighbors during the Coronavirus Pandemic.Lori Vildibill has covered the sidewalks of her street in inspirational messages and doodles, hoping they can make people smile."It's mostly things I had been saying to myself to try to get me to feel better," she says of where she got the ideas for dozens of messages. "Then I thought, I can't just write a bunch of words. Maybe I'll draw a little flower here and there to brighten up people's days."Lori, a Senior in High School, says missing out on things like prom, graduation, and yearbook signing because of Coronavirus had been somewhat depressing. She thought the drawings could change her moods, and also help her neighbors."I realized that I'm probably not the only person feeling that way, and if I can encourage people to just smile or get outside and walk, check out what I'm doing, it would be good for everyone," she says.Even though recent rain has washed away most of the drawings already, Lori says she'll replace them with new ones. She plans to keep bringing a little sunshine after every storm. 1153

President Donald Trump lavished praise on China for the very trade practices he once lambasted as unfair during a remarkable morning session in Beijing.Emerging after two hours of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said he doesn't fault China for taking advantage of differences between the way the two countries do business."I don't blame China," Trump said during remarks to business leaders inside the Great Hall of the People. "After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for benefit of their citizens? I give China great credit." 597

Polls have officially opened in several states for the 2020 general election as Americans decide who will lead their country for the next four years. As of 7 a.m. ET, polls have opened in every state in the eastern time zone, and most of the polls in the central time zone have opened as well.In the final days, polling continued to show that President Donald Trump faces an uphill battle in his re-election bid against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, as Trump trails by between 5 and 10 points in many national polls. However, he faces a smaller deficit in several key swing states. In Pennsylvania, which many analysts consider will be the "tipping point," Biden leads by anywhere from between four and seven points. While millions of Americans will cast their ballots on Tuesday, record numbers have already voted. According to Vox, about 98 million Americans voted early — whether in-person or by mail — as fears of the COVID-19 forced many to plan ahead.Vox also reports that nearly a dozen states have already seen 90% of the ballots cast compared to the 2016 election.Due to high numbers of mail-in ballots — and state procedures for counting them — there's a significant chance that analysts will be unable to project a winner for the presidency by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. In Pennsylvania, officials could not begin processing and counting mail-in ballots until Tuesday morning, while other states like Florida allow some of that work to be done by election day. It's not just the presidency on the line on Tuesday. Democrats also believe they have a shot at taking control of the Senate. In order to do so, they would need to pick up a net of three Senate seats and likely account for a probable loss in Alabama, where Democratic Sen. Doug Jones is expected to lose to Republican challenger Tommy Tuberville. 1843
