ANKARA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Ankara on Thursday night for a three-day official visit to Turkey.Turkey is the last leg of Wen's four-nation tour, which has taken him to Greece, Belgium and Italy. BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Zhou Yongkang Monday called on the country's law enforcement and judicial agencies to safeguard social justice and improve their credibility.Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of CPC Central Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, made the remarks at the commission's group study.Law enforcement agencies should serve the people, said Zhou, who called for special efforts to enhance the public security, rights protection and social justice.He asked the law enforcement organs to take necessary measures to ensure the security of the Shanghai Expo which closes at the end of this month, and the 16th Asian Games, which are scheduled to start in Guangzhou on Nov. 12.

YUZHOU, Henan, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a coal mine gas leak in central China's Henan Province has risen to 32 after six more bodies were found, rescuers said Monday.Some 300 rescuers are still racing against the time to search the five miners remaining trapped despite slim chances of survival as they were feared buried in coal dust.More than 2,500 tonnes of coal dust smothered the pit after the gas leak, which hampered the rescue, said Du Bo, deputy chief of the rescue headquarters.The rescue efforts, however, are speeding up after the underground transport, power and ventilation systems have been restored, said Du.The gas outburst happened at 6:03 a.m. Saturday when 276 miners were working underground in the mine in Yuzhou City. A total of 239 workers escaped but 21 were found dead and 16 were trapped.An initial investigation showed that 173,500 cubic meters of gas leaked out in the accident.The mine is owned by Pingyu Coal & Electric Co. Ltd., a company jointly established by four investors, including Zhong Ping Energy Chemical Group and China Power Investment Corp..

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority raised the level of alert for Typhoon Fanapi to the second highest on Sunday as it nears the country's south coast.Fanapi, the 11th typhoon to hit China this year, will move westward at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, and make landfall between Monday morning and noon at the coast between Guangdong and Fujian provinces, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said.The shipping route linking Xiamen in Fujian Province, and Jinmen, in Taiwan, was closed Sunday with Fanapi approaching, said local authorities.CMA urged local authorities to make full preparations to guard against the strongest typhoon this year.Zhu Xiaoxiang, an expert with CMA, expected Fanapi to subside somewhat shortly after making landfall, and heavy rains were unlikely during the upcoming Chinese traditional mid-autumn festival, which will fall on September 22 this year.
