CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Three Coronado restaurants were closed for cleaning on Tuesday after employees tested positive for the coronavirus. One of the restaurants, The Henry, is facing backlash over accusations that it was not transparent with its patrons. On Facebook, The Henry posted the following message on Monday night.“Coronado neighbors,We apologize for not being more transparent with you about our first COVID positive case last week. Even though we messed up our communication, please know that we took all the right actions to make sure our guests, our employees and our restaurant space were as safe as possible before we re-opened.We went through our entire protocol for a COVID exposure the night after we became aware one of our employees was COVID positive. This includes third-party sanitation of the restaurant, contacting all employees before they returned to work to make sure we knew who had CDC defined exposure to the COVID employee and making sure all employees had access to testing at our cost, regardless of exposure. We got lucky that we were able to get this done so quickly. That has not always been the case. In another restaurant out-of-state, we had to close a restaurant for nearly a week as we waited for the sanitation company and sufficient staff to safely reopen. No one in our industry is happy about the fact we are all getting more experienced and better at responding to COVID exposures. Some of you have asked us why we did not notify the San Diego Health Department about the COVID positive employee. We know the employee's health care provider has notified the Health Department and that we, as employers, are not required to do so. But because of your question today and after calling the San Diego Health Department who encouraged voluntary notification, the Henry is committing to do so. With all of this in mind, this evening we notified the Health Department that we received information about a second COVID positive employee. The employee in this second case was last in the restaurant on Thursday, July 2. We are closing the restaurant early this evening and will be proceeding with sanitation and employee contacts. This time, we do not expect to be able to complete all of these procedures before our regular opening tomorrow. The Henry will be closed until we can go through our protocols, all of which mirror the San Diego Health Department's and CDC guidance. These are challenging times. We are learning how to do this better each day. Thank you for making us better. We hope to regain your trust and serve you again soon.”There are now hundreds of comments from members of the public. Many of the comments express concern that The Henry waited until after the 4th of July holiday weekend to make notification.Nearby McP’s Irish Pub and Hide Tide Bottle Shop and Kitchen were also temporarily closed for cleaning because of virus cases. On Tuesday, McP’s Irish Pub posted the following.“Good morning, For the health, safety and well-being of our valued customers, staff and community, McP’s Irish Pub will be closed beginning today to conduct a deep sanitization cleaning. This is being done per San Diego Co. Health Dept guidelines as one of our team members has tested positive for Covid19.PLEASE!PLEASE!PLEASE! be safe out there and follow what is recommended, let's all be part of the solution!See you all soon!!!”On Monday, Hide Tide Bottle Shop and Kitchen posted the following.“We will be closing today at 4:30 pm. Unfortunately, one of our staff tested positive for COVID-19. We are following the health department protocol and will be closed for a minimum of 48 hours for deep cleaning and time for all our staff to be tested. We will keep you posted. Please follow the rules! It's important! We care about you!”On Tuesday, ABC10 News asked San Diego County about whether restaurants are required to notify the public about employee cases. A spokesperson for the County wrote, "We leave it to the business, ANY business, to notify their customers. If we believe there is a risk to the public beyond that which would require further notification, we would notify the public."The County reports that medical providers are required to notify County health officials about employees who’ve tested positive. When ABC10News asked about whether restaurant employers are required to do the same, the County referred us to the state’s website which reports in part that employers should prepare to notify their local health department if there’s an outbreak or lab confirmed cases in the workplace. On Tuesday, ABC10 News asked The Henry for an interview. A spokesperson for the restaurant group said they were too busy to do an interview. ABC10 News’ calls to Hide Tide Bottle Shop and Kitchen went unanswered. ABC10 News left a message for McP’s Irish Pub and are waiting for a response. 4853

CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Some Coronado residents are shocked and confused after getting a letter from the City, urging them to read the newly released Environmental Impact Report for the airport's "Land Use Compatibility Plan."Many worried that a new airport would be coming into Naval Air Base North Island. However, as 10News discovered, the San Diego Regional Airport Authority has no plans to expand the airport into the Coronado. Custom golf cart maker, Mike Matheny and his dog, Buddy, love everything about Coronado — even the blaring jet noise. "Well, that's the sound of freedom to me," Matheny said. But when he and his neighbors got a letter from the City of Coronado, urging residents to read the Environmental Impact Report for "Naval Air Station North Island Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan," many wondered, are they expanding the airport onto the base?"I think there are other avenues," Matheny said. "Everybody's talking about Brown Field being the most ideal. Expanding that and so forth. But I don't want it here in Coronado. I know that."Just the thought of commercial planes constantly roaring above his home, the increased traffic, and property values taking a nosedive made Matheny nervous. So 10News asked the San Diego Regional Airport Authority to clear the air. Are there plans to expand the airport into Coronado?"None whatsoever," Airport Authority manager, Ralph Redman, said. It turns out the 182-page document is one of 16 state-mandated reports that assess the environmental impacts of the current airport onto surrounding neighborhoods. The report shows there are no significant impacts to Coronado residents, except in the "Land Use and Planning" category. If adopted, 1,000 residents who live in the same area as Matheny would have strict restrictions on future property developments. "We wouldn't want a school or a high rise building to be built right off the end of a runway," Redman said. "We are trying to limit the amount of density that would go into that area."So with no plans for a new airport, Matheny and Buddy can breathe a sigh of relief. Back to living the life in his sweet Coronado home. "Every time you come across the bridge, you just feel like you're in paradise," Matheny said. The Airport Authority is asking stakeholders and Coronado residents to submit their input on the Environmental Study by Feb. 7, 2020. In the end, the City of Coronado will decide if they will adopt the Airport Authority's Plan. That vote will take place this spring. 2515

CINCINNATI — "The NRA is a terrorist organization.”Mad Dog PAC, a Maryland-based political action committee, paid to put messages like this one on billboards all over the country, including over northbound Interstate 75 in Middletown. Their installations, which include an "Impeachment Now" sign near President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and 14 other National Rifle Association-centric billboards across the country, are splashy, provocative and to-the-point, calling for regulation of the NRA and the removal of various "Treasonweasel" Republican politicians.PAC chair Claude Taylor said the messages are as severe as they need to be."We think the NRA is acting very much like a terrorist organization," he said. "We are very suspicious of some of their Russian funding. … The situation with the NRA has just gotten beyond control."He and other members, he said, hope public outcry can convince legislators to spurn donations from the gun advocacy organization, which also has a recent history of provocative rhetoric, and enact "common-sense" restrictions of gun sales in the United States.RELATED: Trump reassures NRA: 'We will protect your Second Amendment'The restrictions for which Taylor advocates include those that have gained national traction in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, including a ban on the sale of certain high-power automatic weapons."We are starting a conversation," Taylor said.Russ Mikesell intends to continue it.Mikesell, a gun owner who said he doesn't feel the existing billboard represents the feelings of Middletonians, hopes those with the same beliefs can buy the empty billboard directly beneath Mad Dog PAC's and use it to display an opposing message."I am for the First Amendment and freedom of speech," he said. That's why he intends to use it to make another argument: "Let's go ahead and offer a different perspective on this -- not even necessarily advocating the NRA or anything like that. It's more about the Second Amendment."Like any political action committee, Mad Dog PAC uses donations to fund its displays of outreach and activism. "Billboard of Freedom" advocates such as Mikesell plan to do the same thing.Trenton resident Dan Jones created a GoFundMe to raise ,000 for a "pro gun message to upset liberals" and "take action against the Mad Dog PAC funded by George Soros!"The campaign had raised 0 by Friday night; Mikesell said he hoped to get the pro-gun billboard up by the end of the month. 2522

Complaints are growing nationwide about workplace safety issues related to coronavirus. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has received more than 6,500 nationwide on a federal level since February. One trial lawyer who works in employment law says she expects the number of complains will keep going up.“Where I really think the numbers are going to escalate is in the retaliation world, where employees bring issues to their employers' attention about failing to implement appropriate administrative or engineering controls or social distancing measures and then they feel that they have suffered an adverse employment action as a result of bringing this to their employer's attention,” said trial lawyer Laura Lawless.OSHA recently updated its guidance on COVID-19-related workplace safety. It now suggests wherever possible and feasible employers should require masks at work. This guidance is something Lawless says everyone was waiting on. She says for states or cities that already had a mask mandate it was easier to enforce at work already, but for states that don't have this mandate, it was harder until now.“At least you can now turn to CDC guidance and OSHA guidance as an employer and say look even if you disagree with us for a political reason or personal expression reason, we're following the guidance from agencies that are meant to look out for your health and safety,” said Lawless.Still, there are concerns OSHA isn't going far enough in other areas. One big criticism among employee protective organizations, workers organizations and unions is that OSHA’s guidance on COVID-19 isn't a regulation and doesn't really have any teeth.Virginia and Oregon are two states looking to fill in the gap with their own worker protections. If you see issues in your workplace, the employment lawyer recommends being reasonable in your approach and not getting too emotional in your reaction. She says also keep careful documentation about who you spoke to and what you talked about. 2022
