I want you to know exactly where we are with our discussions with the Big 3 leadership and protecting our members and their facilities during this international crisis.I announced this past Sunday that the International UAW had formed a COVID-19/Coronavirus task force with GM, Ford and FCA to implement enhanced protections for manufacturing and warehouse employees at all three companies.I want to be very transparent about what happened during our conversation Sunday with the Big 3. The UAW leadership, based on the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations on how to protect ourselves and our communities, requested a two-week shutdown of operations to safeguard our members, our families and our communities. Your UAW leadership feels very strongly, and argued very strongly, that this is the most responsible course of action.The companies, however, were not willing to implement this request. They asked for 48 hours to put together plans to safeguard workers in their facilities. (Ford Motor Company has indicated this week that they are willing to rotate down shifts and are planning to shut down all European operations next week.)The 48-hour window is up this afternoon. We will be evaluating what the companies submit today and there will be a meeting this evening at 6 p.m., where the Task Force will review plans for the safety and health of all members, their families and our communities.I want to be very clear here: If the UAW leadership on the task force, myself and Vice Presidents Cindy Estrada, Terry Dittes and Gerald Kariem, are not satisfied that our members will be protected, we will take this conversation to the next level.These companies will be put on notice that the UAW will use any and all measures to protect our brothers and sisters who are working in their facilities. (AP) — A Georgia judge has denied bond for the white father and son charged with murder in the February slaying of Ahmaud Arbery.Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley said Friday that he's concerned Gregory McMichael and his adult son, Travis McMichael, took the law into their own hands and endangered neighbors when they pursued the 25-year-old Black man with guns and shot him in a residential street in February.Defense attorneys say the McMichaels had reason to suspect Arbery was a burglar and Travis McMichael was defending himself when he shot Arbery in the port city of Brunswick.During a hearing Thursday, prosecutors said Travis McMichael had previously used racial slurs in text messages and on social media.Prosecutors asked the suspect’s friend, Zachary Langford, on the witness stand about a text in which McMichael used a slur for Black people. At first, he said he didn’t recall receiving the message, but after reviewing a transcript of the exchange, he said “He was referring to a raccoon, I believe,” The Associated Press reports.Attorneys for the McMichaels have died any racist motives in the shooting.The McMichaels were not arrested until May, when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stepped and charged them with murder and aggravated assault.There was mounting public pressure for justice in the case after video was released of the deadly incident. The case gained attention nationwide during the summer’s protests over racial injustice.The man who filmed the video, William Bryan, was also later arrested and charged with murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment, according to The New York Times.In June, The Times says a grand jury returned an indictment with nine counts against all three men. Those charges include malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. 1934

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. - The home of Jayme Closs, a Wisconsin girl missing for about two weeks, was burglarized on the same weekend her parents were laid to rest.On Saturday, the Barron County Sheriff's Office says officers arrested 32-year-old Kyle Jaenke-Annis for burglary at the Closs home.According to a criminal complaint, Jaenke-Annis broke into the Closs home and stole several pieces of clothing believed to belong to Jayme, including tank tops, a dress, and underwear. According to the criminal complaint, Jaenke-Annis told authorities he was "curious about what size Jayme was". The Sheriff's Office says Jaenke-Annis has been cleared of any involvement in the disappearance but was charged in Barron County Court on Monday with Burglary and Bail Jumping. Online court records show Jaenke-Annis was facing charges for a different burglary case from August.Jayme Closs was reported missing after her parents were found murdered in their home two weeks ago. There has been no sign of Jayme since. A funeral for her parents was held Saturday afternoon. The Sheriff's Office says it has received over 2,000 tips and have closed over 1,875 of them in the search for Jayme.
