PHOENIX (AP) — The 5,200 active-duty troops being sent by President Donald Trump to the U.S.-Mexico border will be limited in what they can do under a federal law that restricts the military from engaging in law enforcement on American soil.That means the troops will not be allowed to detain immigrants, seize drugs from smugglers or have any direct involvement in stopping a migrant caravan that is still about 1,000 miles from the nearest border crossing.Instead, their role will largely mirror that of the existing National Guard troops — about 2,000 in all — deployed to the border over the past six months, including providing helicopter support for border missions, installing concrete barriers and repairing and maintaining vehicles. Border Patrol agents this year made only a quarter of the arrests they made in 2000 at the height of illegal immigration, when the agency had half of the staffing it does today. Police in Omaha, Nebraska are looking for a suspect vehicle in connection with a shooting at the Irvington Walmart just before 5 p.m. Wednesday that left a 21-year-old woman dead.Kayviaun T. Nelson died after a shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart near 99th Street and Military Avenue, just off Interstate 680, with a child reportedly in the vehicle. OPD are looking for a 2001 bronze Chevy Malibu with license plate VVT-545.Police closed down the Irvington Walmart for hours Wednesday evening while conducting their investigation around the store.Police said they believe some type of disturbance occurred at a different location and the suspect in the shooting followed her to Walmart.Officers later worked with store management to clear all customers from the Walmart location just off Interstate 680 North and prevent anyone else from entering the location. PLACENTIA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say two sport utility vehicles have plowed into a Goodwill store in Southern California, injuring five people.Orange County fire Capt. Tony Bommarito says an 88-year-old woman rear-ended a parked car shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in Placentia, pushing the SUV all the way into the store. The woman's SUV wound up partially inside.The woman was taken to the hospital with a trauma injury, but she's expected to survive.Bommarito says a 14-year-old boy in the SUV that was struck and three women inside the store — two shoppers and an employee — were treated for minor injuries. 620

Passengers were able to travel on a Delta flight from the US to Europe without quarantining on Tuesday, assuming they passed three coronavirus tests.The flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam, the first between the two locales that does not require quarantine since the onset of the pandemic, required passengers to be negative from a PCR coronavirus test in the previous five days, and receive a negative result from a rapid coronavirus test at the airport the day of the flight. A second PCR test is then administered upon arrival, and passengers are not required to quarantine once receiving a negative result.Delta is also launching a similar program for flights between Atlanta and Rome this week. Passengers bound for Rome are required to take a PCR test within 72 of the flight in addition to being administered a rapid test at the airport.
