GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — In the span of just over 12 hours, a wildfire burning west of Denver grew in size sixfold, reaching nearly 200,000 acres and forcing evacuations in Grand County and the total closure of Rocky Mountain National Park.Between Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, the East Troublesome fire exploded from a size of 19,086 to about 170,000 acres — making it the second-largest wildifre in state history. An incident commander for the fire said Thursday morning that the fire expanded 20 miles north of Granby and Grant Lake into Rocky Mountain National Park.A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 6 p.m., and winds are expected make the fire extremely active Thursday, according to the incident management team.Just before 9 a.m. Thursday, a spokesperson from Rocky Mountain National Park announced the entire park had closed to visitors due to the fires west of the Continental Divide. Air quality is hazardous within the park.The entire town of Grand Lake was evacuated Wednesday, along with all residents north, west and along Highway 34. Evacuees were told to go south on Highway 34, if possible.Around 1 a.m. on Thursday in a Facebook video, Schroetlin explained just how difficult the day had been."I have a message," he said. "I'm not even sure what those words are. Today (Wednesday) has been an extremely, extremely challenging day for our community. We knew this fire was here. We knew the impacts of it. We looked at every possible potential for this fire. We never, ever expected 6,000 acres per hour to come upon our community."He said the winds were strong and as a result, the fire's behavior was strong. They've never experienced challenges like Wednesday, he said. However, the community stepped up."As we drive around this northern part of Grand County, I don't know what we'll see in the morning, to be honest," he said. "But you know what? Together, as a community, we're going to get through this."Schroetlin said authorities made "some incredible rescues" on Wednesday, including an incident where deputies were able to rescue four loggers whose vehicle had caught fire on a county road.High winds followed by a cold front are expected Thursday. P&G also began notifying retailers this week that it would increase the average prices of Bounty, Charmin, and Puffs by 5 percent.P&G is raising prices because commodity and transportation cost pressures are intensifying. The hikes to Bounty and Charmin will go into effect in late October, and Puffs will become more expensive beginning early next year.These products are significant sales drivers and market share leaders for P&G.Food companies, such as Coke, Boston Beer, Hershey, and Tyson Foods, have announced price increases in recent weeks, but P&G's move will serve as a test for how willing Americans are to pay up for big household brands. The strategy could leave the company vulnerable to low-cost competitors or pushback from retail partners. Walmart was P&G's biggest buyer in 2017, accounting for 16% of its billion in sales."There is uncertainty and will be volatility with these pricing moves. They will negatively impact consumption. HARTSHORNE, Okla. – A veteran says he is being kicked out of his home by the City of Hartshorne.William Smith has called a camper home for the last eight years on property that he owns. Now, Hartshorne is telling him to pack it all up and find somewhere else to live.William Smith said, "The hookups were here: water, sewer, and electric. Everything was here. I just figured since I had already been living in my RV and it was mine and it was paid for and I got my property paid for, I thought I was good to go for many, many years."Smith was a Navy radar engineer, constantly moving around."To get all of my equipment on an airplane was not a thing that you could really do," he said.He tinkers in his garage on the property, which is the main reason he bought the land, and generally keeps to himself. So, the veteran was surprised when he the police handed him an eviction notice.It said he had 120 days to relocate. Due to a new ordinance passed by the city council, recreational vehicles, travel trailers and campers no longer specify as a structure for permanent living in the city limits. The city claims the reason is "preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.""They told me there's no provision for a grandfather clause or anything that would allow me to stay here," Smith said,Although some may be concerned about property value, most of Smith's neighbors say they would rather see a camper with a well-kept yard next door to them than an abandoned house like several on Smith’s street.Now, the retired veteran is left in limbo, trying to figure out his next move in life."I bought the place so I could retire here and work in my garage to do my piddling and my projects and all that. In fact, in 2016, Ikea recalled millions of dressers and other pieces of furniture for fear that the items could tip over and crush young children.However, experts say there's an easy fix to the problem that takes less than 10 minutes.According to Patrick McNulty of "Child Safe Childproofing," you'll need a hand drill, a drill bit, a stud finder and a pencil. You'll also need a child-safe strap, like the ones made of metal and seatbelt material that can be found on Amazon.McNulty recommends using two straps for dressers at least 2 feet tall.First, using the stud finder, find the studs at either end of the wall behind the dresser. Mark those spots with the pencil.Next,attach one side of the strap to the dresser. Then, slide the dresser close to the wall and attach the other end of the strap to the wall.McNulty says every 17 minutes a child gets hurt by tipping furniture. More than 46 percent of all tip-overs happen in the bedroom.With simple tools and 10 minutes of work, McNulty says you could save a life.  “Any ER visit you end up paying for, it's going to be far cheaper to just strap all the furniture,” he said. 1233
