However, for the whole year, sightings are down compared to 2017.Rangers at the Mission Trails Regional Park say hikers should not panic if they see a rattlesnake on the trail. They even recommend taking a picture if you're a safe distance away.RELATED: What to do in the event of a rattlesnake biteRattlesnakes common throughout Mission Trails are the Southern Pacific and Red Diamond. Each can be several feet long and can strike about half their body length.Hiker and volunteer guide Daryel Stager recently spotted a five-foot Red Diamond rattlesnake eating a possum."I thought it was pretty cool, I don't usually see them with prey they've killed," said Stager. "They want to be left alone and get some rays - like going to the beach."Experts recommend keeping dogs leashed so that they do not startle a rattlesnake off the trail.  1112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It’s now been a week since the first Americans began their quarantines at MCAS Miramar after evacuating from the epicenter of the coronavirus, and all Charles Wasserburger wants is one thing: a pizza.“I’m just eating the food they have here and suffering through all the pizza and burger commercials they have on TV,” he said.To be clear, the Nebraska native says he’s not complaining about conditions on the base where he has been on a mandatory 14-day quarantine since Feb. 5. The government has provided all 232 evacuees at Miramar with televisions and cell phones to call or video chat with loved ones, free of charge. Wasserburger works for a microbiology company. He was in Wuhan, China on business when the outbreak began. He hasn’t shown signs of the virus, but with two cases now confirmed among evacuees at Miramar, his wife in Omaha is a little worried on his behalf.“Even when you’re trying to keep a positive attitude, which he has done, there’s still going to be those days when you’re second guessing, “Could I be that person that comes down with that horrible thing next?” Fauniel Wasserburger said.The evacuees are allowed to mingle with each other in quarantine, although they’re supposed to stay six feet apart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Local VFW posts are bracing for the new restrictions to kick-in on Saturday.The restrictions result from an increase in COVID-19 cases in the county, putting the county in the state's purple tier, the tier with the toughest covid-19 related restrictions.Mike Hill, the post commander at VFW 5985 in Pacific Beach, says they are already struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic because of the restrictions."There are 22 VFW posts and more American Legion posts through San Diego County, and all of us rely on having events and having people coming to our canteen, which is sort of military for a bar and spend money there, and that helps support us," Hill said. "We've eaten up most of our savings to pay the bills while we've been closed."He says they have relied on donations so far and will be needing more the longer the pandemic lasts."I will tell you the members, and I will be dialing for dollars," Hill said. He says they will start within their members first, then the community."We'll reach out to the community and hope that some of them will value this place that's been in the community for 90 years and let it still be a home for veterans to be around other veterans," he said.VFW 5985 has been closed most days except Tuesdays and Fridays to make meals for dozens of veterans, their families, and those who need it.
