SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's not the most family-friendly event in town, but it is one of San Diego's most time-honored bashes.The 66th Over-The-Line (OTL) World Championship returns to Fiesta Island Park for two weekends July 13 and 14, and July 20 and 21. The annual event, known for its color team names and characters, started locally in the 1950s and has since become a highlight of summertime in San Diego.What more can you ask for during the sweltering heat? Sunshine, brews, and a simple sport that everyone can follow. The batter's goal is to hit the ball into fair territory (over the line) without a fielder catching it. A hit includes any ball that lands in fair territory, if a fielder crosses over the line, or if a fielder drops the ball in fair or foul territory.If a batter connects with the ball but it does not cross the line, it can be saved and ruled a "no pitch" if the batter or pitcher are able to catch the ball before it hits the ground. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - If San Diego County has a case rate higher than 7.0 next week, it could be moved into the state’s purple tier which is the most restrictive tier for area businesses.Wednesday, county health officials said San Diego County was at a 4.5% testing positivity rate and 7.9 cases per 100,000 people. The current case rate it over the state's threshold of 7.0 cases per 100,000 residents reserved for the purple tier, the state's most restrictive.According to a breakdown from the California Department of Public Health, retail stores will have to lower to 25% capacity indoors, from 50% capacity.Restaurants must move to outdoor dining only, after operating at 25% capacity indoors or 100 people, whichever is fewer.Shopping centers will move to 25% capacity with closed common areas and a closed food court. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It’s no mistake, the Marriott Marquis in Downtown San Diego is playing host to bees on the roof, and it’s all for the benefit of local business. The hive highlights a growing trend called urban beekeeping and the popularity of the practice is creating a lot of buzz. In 2012, the City of San Diego amended its municipal code to allow some residents, along with community gardens and retail farms to keep two beehives. The practice has several benefits, according to the city, including access to fresh, natural honey. The city says urban beekeeping also reduces the number of aggressive Africanized bees in the vicinity of the docile honeybee hive. Beekeeping is also known to reduce carbon footprint due to local production, however, there are some things to be aware of. The primary risk of beekeeping is getting stung. The city says if you plan to keep bees, you can count on bee stings every now and then. Before deciding to keep bees, the City of San Diego urges dialogue with neighbors.
