President Donald Trump held a news briefing from the White House Tuesday as the nation is still in the grips of the coronavirus pandemic.Watch replay:Late Monday, a Trump interview with Axios’ Jonathan Swan was released, when the president said the nation’s death coronavirus death toll “is what it is.” The president claimed that Americans should look at the number the percentage of fatal coronavirus cases instead of the per capita death rate of the virus to measure the government’s response."They are dying,” Trump said. “That's true. And you -- it is what it is. But that doesn't mean we aren't doing everything we can. It's under control as much as you can control it."Trump added that the United States is doing “very well" in its response. The president cited relative upticks in coronavirus cases in countries such as Germany, Japan and Australia. But according to Johns Hopkins University data, the spread of the virus in those countries pale in comparison to the spread in the United States.“You’re starting to see that other countries are having very big flare-ups, countries that thought they were over it,” Trump said on Monday. “Like, we thought we might be over it in Florida, and then all of a sudden, it comes back. They do come back But I think we’re doing very well.”While Trump points out that coronavirus cases are leveling off across the US, the number of coronavirus-related deaths has increased in recent weeks. The number of deaths have generally been lagging case numbers by a few weeks, according to Johns Hopkins University data.Meanwhile, members of Congress are continuing to debate the next round of stimulus. After Senate Republicans released their proposals early last week, the White House and House Democrats have struggled to reach any sort of consensus along with the Republican caucus. While there is broad agreement on another round of ,200 stimulus checks for Americans, issues such as food stamps, unemployment supplements, and liability protection for businesses remain key unsolved issues between the parties. 2063

olice."When police arrived on scene, they found about 20 people, according to the police report. There was an anarchy symbol spray painted on the driveway. "There were also signs left on the vehicles parked in the driveway as well as a sign left on the front door of the home," according to the police report. Some of the signs were seized as evidence. The police report describes the incident as a "suspected hate crime" and says the motivation was "anti-political."Carlson, one of the top hosts on Fox, is a top target of progressive critics as well. They say Carlson supports white supremacy through his commentaries and programming choices -- a charge he flatly denies.Figures on the left and right quickly denounced the group's action. Former Fox host Megyn Kelly tweeted: "This has to stop... He does not deserve this. His family does not deserve this. It's stomach-turning.""This is not okay," CNN host SE Cupp wrote. "By the political left, the political right or the deranged. Don't do this.""I think Tucker is a terrible influence on modern America but that doesn't justify harassing him at home. Go high, not low," CNN commentator Max Boot tweeted. One of the leaders of Media Matters, a liberal media monitoring group that opposes Fox, also condemned the incident."This behavior is way over the line," senior fellow Matthew Gertz tweeted. "Going to someone's home, breaking their door, and terrorizing their family is unacceptable. It's also extremely counterproductive if your interest is actually in reducing his influence.""Late Show" host Stephen Colbert weighed in as well, saying "Fighting Tucker Carlson's ideas is an American right. Targeting his home and terrorizing his family is an act of monstrous cowardice. Obviously don't do this, but also, take no pleasure in it happening. Feeding monsters just makes more monsters."Carlson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN.But he told the Post that one of the individuals "actually cracked the front door" of his home.Carlson's colleagues came to his defense. Commentator Brit Hume called the protest "revolting, and frightening." And Fox meteorologist Janice Dean pointed out that Carlson has four children. The Carlsons "should never feel unsafe or terrorized in their own home or neighborhood. No one deserves this," Dean wrote. "It's uncivilized, frightening and evil."The-CNN-Wire 3829

President Donald Trump plans to cast his ballot in person on Saturday, taking advantage of Florida’s early voting period. The White House says the president will vote in West Palm Beach, a short drive from his Mar-a-Lago private club, and, as of 2019, his official residence. The club is located in the town of Palm Beach, which doesn’t have any early voting locations.Trump moved his residence to Florida a year ago from New York, citing his frustration with New York’s political leadership. He also hoped it would give him a boost in the critical battleground state. His path to another term in the White House is virtually nonexistent without a repeat victory in Florida. 681

President Donald Trump grew indignant on Thursday in opposing "active shooter drills" in schools, making a rare reference to his own son as he described the practice as "crazy.""Active shooter drills is a very negative thing, I'll be honest with you," he said at the White House. "I think that's a very negative thing to be talking about. I don't like it. I don't want to tell my son 'you're going to have to participate in an active shooter drill. I'd much rather have a hardened school."Trump's youngest son, Barron, is 11 years old."I don't like it. I'd much rather have a hardened school. I don't like it. I wouldn't want to tell my son that you're going to participate in an active shooter drill," he said."I think it's crazy. I think it's very bad for children."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 872

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police in Portland, Oregon, declared a riot as protesters demonstrated outside a law enforcement building early Sunday, continuing a nightly ritual in the city. Officers used crowd-control munitions including smoke to disperse the gathering outside the Penumbra Kelly building. Police said protesters had thrown "softball size" rocks, glass bottles and other objects at officers. Police also reported vandalism at the building. The actions came after what started as a peaceful protest late Saturday. Violence had erupted earlier Saturday afternoon when a small group of far-right demonstrators traded paintballs and pepper spray with counter-protesters. 684
