WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The hurricane season continues to be active with the formation of a new tropical storm and a depression in the last 12 hours.Tropical depression 17 formed Sunday night in the Atlantic and became Tropical Storm Paulette just before 11 a.m. Monday.The storm has 40 mph winds with higher gusts and is moving west, northwest at 3 mph.Paulette is the earliest forming 16th named storm on record, breaking an old record set by Philippe on September 17, 2005, according to hurricane expert Philip Klotzbach.A slow-motion toward the northwest or north-northwest is expected tonight. Paulette is then forecast to move a little faster and generally westward on Tuesday and Wednesday.Early indications are it may curve before it reaches the Bahamas, but we will keep an eye on it just in case. It's a spinoff from his Band In A Bus program.“We believe it’s like giving away a box of joy,” said Rose.With more and more questions about what classes and extracurriculars will look like as the coronavirus pandemic continues, Band In A Bus is changing its approach to hand out recorders and drum sticks to as many kids as possible.“The least we can do in these trying times is help kids feel some type of happiness and excitement every day,” Rose said. "That’s kind of why we’re trying to pilot this program.”Band In A Bus says budget cuts due to the coronavirus are forcing some schools to cut back music programs even more, which makes these free boxes even more important for kids.“The worst thing that we can do to a kid is strip them of this creative outlet,” Rose said. “As a growing young person, the most valuable thing is learning who you are and your tone of voice.”The Band in a Box program has enough money to help about 500 kids, but it is raising more money to try to impact as many families as possible.“That’s the experience that every kid can kind of relate to – that excitement, that fun,” Rose said. “You could see their smiles as they were drumming. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Two specially modified shotguns and ammunition were stolen from Palm Beach Zoo in the hours between late Wednesday and early Thursday.Head of Communications & Public Relations for Palm Beach Zoo, Naki Carter, says someone broke into the zoo and pried open a gun safe that stored the weapons.The shotguns were used by the zoo's "critical response team" in cases of emergency.The zoo is offering a ,000 reward for the return of the weapons.When asked if this was thought to be an "inside job", Carter had no comment.If the perpetrator(s) is caught with the weapons, which require a federal permit, they could face 10 years in prison and a fine.Carter says Palm Beach Zoo has increased security measures since the theft, but will not go into detail as to what those measures entail. 828
