SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of San Diego's most popular taco stops plans to expand across the county.City Tacos, which started in 2014 in North Park and added a La Mesa location in 2017, is preparing to open in four more locations around San Diego County. The shop is heading to Imperial Beach, Encinitas, Pacific Beach, and the Sorrento Valley area, according to City Tacos owner Gerald Torres."We've been expanding as rapidly as we can while being responsible," Torres said, noting when he used to open a store, he did so, "quietly and let people trickle in and take care of them."RELATED: List: San Diego's best Mexican restaurantsThe opening of the Imperial Beach location, however, will see a bit of a different welcoming. Free tacos will be given to the first 200 customers during its opening. In IB, the location will partner with local craft brewery Mike Hess to feature a 6,500-square-foot taco shop and beer garden just steps from the beach on Ocean Lane. Customers can expect many of the delicious taco creations found at other City Tacos locations, with the added benefit of pairing them with Mike Hess brews.To open, the IB stop will also offer tacos from local IB Street Tacos, including the carnitas, pollo asado and cameron enchilada tacos. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mortgage brokers spent the past week calling and emailing clients around San Diego, telling people it's time to buy."Whenever I see a rate dip like that, my first reaction is to call everyone as fast as I can," says Broker Scott Davenport. "I try to get a hold of as many people that have been on that fence to jump on it as quickly as they can."The frenzy started when mortgage rates dropped .22% on March 27, to 4.06% on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage.It was the biggest single-week rate drop in more than a decade.RELATED: San Diego among top hot housing markets for 2019, Zillow reports"That could mean a savings of hundreds of dollars per month," says Davenport. "Or even hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a 30 year mortgage."Analysts say the drop came after the Federal Reserve said it was worried about the economy slowing down. It caused concern among investors, which led to good news for buyers."It's not gonna last," says Davenport. "You never know where the market's going to go. I expect rates to stay low through the summer, but at the same time, I don't expect them to stay low for long."Rates hit historic lows in 2012, around 3%, after the recession and housing bubble burst. Davenport says he doesn't see conditions that would create rates that low any time soon. That's why he's telling people to take advantage of the current rate near 4% now.He says anyone thinking of buying, or of refinancing a mortgage should get in touch with their broker now."Have the numbers run. It's something we do all the time," he says. "We can see if there's a benefit for a refinance with it, with the rate drop for you right now. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police identified the man suspected of a sexual assault in a Mission Beach alley as 40-year old Philemon Shark from Seattle. According to San Diego police, a 24-year old woman was walking by herself on Bayside Lane around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday when Shark attacked her. The woman screamed for help, and several residents ran out and stopped Shark before he ran away.Officers caught up to him in a breezeway and took him into custody. Shark was booked on felony sexual assault charges and outstanding warrants from Washington state, according to police.Police said Shark had been in San Diego for a few months before the assault. 653
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — President Trump wants to restart the U.S. economy by April 12, but multiple economists, governors and health officials are expressing skepticism about that date amid efforts to flatten the curve of coronavirus infections.Still, the longer the shutdown lasts, the harder it will be for businesses to get up and running, economists say. Alan Gin, an economist at the University of San Diego, said if this lasts through April, it should be survivable for many businesses. However, anything beyond that could render reopening less likely."Some businesses are not going to be able to hang on, even with the help that is coming from the federal government, so they will end up closing for good," Gin said. San Diego's economy is hurting as thousands of restaurant, retail and hotel workers are laid off amid the coronavirus restrictions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New plans for a development in the Bay Park neighborhood are aimed at providing "transit-oriented" homes amid the region's housing crunch.Protea Properties has plans for the 3.5-acre lot right off Interstate 5, between Clairemont Drive and Morena Boulevard. The site is located across from the future Blue Line Trolley Station.The development director of the project confirms the development includes 156 apartments and 40,000-square-feet of retail and restaurant spaces. Some community members are concerned with the current plans and tell 10News they hope their concerns will be heard and changes will be made. "We're trying to back the city off from slamming us with density and trying to get a project that meets everybody's needs," local James Lamattery said.Lamattery says the community is fighting for more affordable housing units and lower building heights. Right now, the plans call for two, four-story buildings and 16 apartment units for affordable housing. The city is reviewing plans before they vote on required permits.
