(KGTV) - Chula Vista's city council will revisit whether to legalize the sale of recreational marijuana this month.City leaders said earlier this month they would take a look at the draft of the proposal that would allow Chula Vista to permit, license, and fully regulate commercial marijuana. The council will open the matter again during their Feb. 27 meeting.If passed, Chula Vista's ordinance would allow for 12 commercial licenses, including eight storefronts. CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- Students in the south bay could get free lunches this June. The Sweetwater Union High School District announced Monday that its popular meal program is making a comeback. Called the “Seamless Summer Feeding Program,” free meals are being offered for most of June. According to the district, the free meals are available to anyone 18 and younger. The program runs from June 10 through June 28 Monday through Friday from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. The free lunches are being offered at Montgomery High School and Sweetwater Union High. According to the district, no registration is needed. “Just come and enjoy some great food,” a flyer from the district reads. Ron DeSantis on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the Palm Beach County School Board reached a consensus to start the 2020-21 academic year with online-only classes."Educating our kids is absolutely essential," DeSantis said during a news conference at the Jacksonville Port Authority. "I have no doubt we can do this safely."Claiming that students across the state have suffered an "education gap" from online distance learning, he urged school districts to consider opening brick and mortar schools right away for the 2020-21 academic year."I want our kids to be able to minimize this education gap that I think has developed," DeSantis said. "In spite of good efforts with the online, it's just not the same. So I worry about that gap."The governor added he's concerned about the social impact that distance learning is having on children."There's something to be said for being in school, seeing people you know, growing up like a normal kid," DeSantis said.On Wednesday, the Palm Beach County School Board reached a consensus to start the 2020-21 academic year, which is slated to begin on Monday, Aug. 10, with online-only classes due to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus pandemic.A final vote will take place on July 15.DeSantis, whose three children are not old enough to attend kindergarten, said he would send them to elementary school if they were of age."I would not hesitate to put them in, in terms of the risk. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A brand new health clinic for military veterans opened its doors in the South Bay Friday.The new Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) facility is located at 353 H Street, Chula Vista.The new VASDHS facility will replace the current clinic at 865 3rd Avenue, which opened in December 2015. It's three times the size of the facility it's replacing and will serve up to 25,000 veterans.The million clinic has 28 exam rooms,12 consultation rooms, and optometry and women's health and mental health services. In addition, the clinic will expand the capacity for appointments.Many veterans had to drive to La Jolla or Mission Valley for these services.Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the new VASDHS clinic is built with physical precautions like plexiglass separating the patients and staff at the front desk.According to the Veterans Affairs website, 529 veterans have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in San Diego County and have been treated within the health system. 1012
